My TR5AP is currently at Sony San Diego RRC for servicing and will be back this Friday.
I share some of your concern (especially those underscored by gr00vy0ne) as well since I have installed the internal BT module and bezel. I have about 1 year of warranty left and obviously physical damage is not covered. Fortunately, as far as warranty issue is of concern, the service agent I spoke to confirm that my warranty is still valid even though I’ve initiated my own upgrades. Thus, with the service agent’s assurance I assume Sony will honor the warranty should I ever need to send it in for servicing.
Basically, my TR5AP needs new palm rest and bottom casing - so I had to ensure that the service technician do not discard the palm rest with the BT module and bezel when installing a new casing.
So, what I did in addition to an extensive letter (explaining which component needs servicing) with a note of caution regarding the BT module, I spoke to a friendly service technician earlier this afternoon. He assures me that the BT module will be taken care of. So, all I can say is rest assured - as long as you have clear instruction, your TR will be back in one piece; and do follow up once you’ve approved repair service.
Hopefully, my TR5AP will be back with its BT module intact. :wink: Good luck with your TR1.
