The hardest thing about this review was taking pictures of the device. You basically see my fingers, the cameras I used, and a few other things reflecting like crazy. It really is hard to take a good picture of it that captures the beauty of the product.
been thinking about adding these to my line up of products i bring into Oz, but I just don’t think Aussies will pay the right $‘s for them. Aussies are notoriously cheap bastards. But they are a very nice little product.
Neat, Neat , Neat!!!! Very well done device in my opinion! No wonder Apple has been bitten of its market share of audio products in Japan already. Read about it here .
I was also tempted to get one in Orlando SonyStyle store, but my wife would not understand why I would want one after just getting an HMP-A1 and VAIO Pocket…........
[quote author=“Ishii”]Thanks for the review gr00vy0ne! As usual, very thorough and thoughtful. If you don’t mind, I will announce your review at MDCF .
Cheers, Ishii
I don’t mind at all. Many thanks! I like being called a “fanboy” as well although I prefer the term “Sony Ho” better.
I’m going to review a MiniDisc unit next so I’ll keep you posted on that one as well.
I’ll add this to the review but I thought I’d mention it here first. You can use Music Move (aka VAIO Music Transfer) to simply drag and drop tracks to the NW-E507!!!
And the Music Move is also compatible with the NW-HDx series. This is all good. In addition, I hear that Sony will release another sort of drag-and-drop utility for the NW-Ex series. Perhaps, it will be just an update to the current Music Move 1.2 since you can utilize Music Move with the NW-E507.
Yeah, getting linked there makes a huge difference in exposure. I’m looking at least a 25x increase of daily traffic today simply because of them. I was also linked on Fatwallet for the VAIO Pocket a few days ago which is also helping to drive traffic.
I was informed by a reader of my site that the following application allows you to use a 3rd option to getting MP3s onto your NW-E1xx and NW-E5xx portable audio device. It’s called Sony’s MP3 File Manager and it can seemingly only be found on their UK support site.
I decided to try it out and HOLY CRAP! It works!
Basically you install it and it installs the program on the device itself. That’s right it doesn’t install on your system. It’s a measly 1.4MB worth of files with a single program that you load.
Once loaded, all you do is drag and drop MP3 files over to the device and it adds them. Here’s the CRAZY thing about it. You do not need SonicStage installed on the host system at all! I tried it on a bunch of virgin systems and it transfers the songs over without any hassle!
Of course, I wonder if Sony will ever release this officially elsewhere. It’s truly slick and makes me laugh since its small footprint and instant portability is a far cry from all the nonsense of SonicStage. It also goes to show how completely bloated SonicStage really is.
Oh, last note. It doesn’t seem to like non-Western characters but it won’t mess up your already loaded files. You may just have difficulty seeing some of the files in the interface. So, for instance, you cannot transfer over Japanese labeled songs over. Somebody at Sony needs to learn about using Unicode. Sheesh!
