Being a Mac user I am used to my 17” Powerbook shutting down in less than 10 seconds. How long for the T250? My T250 takes a whopping 1 minute 30 seconds.

Could be a couple of things. I’d lower the Application Kill Timeout in the registry and make sure your pagefile isn’t being cleared on shutdown . (follow these instructions but verify that the setting is 0 not 1)

Drachen - Off topic :oops: , but what is that big toolbar at the top of your desktop on the link below? Is that on a mac or a pc?

Read his page, he discloses right there (right above the image) its Y’s Dock/Objectdock.  Don’t let the cream white theme fool you, it’s a PC (as evinced by the “Display Properties” window).

buddy1065: Its also possible you have some background processes that aren’t properly responding to Windows’ shutdown alert.  From idle my T shuts down in about ten seconds.

I remember the first time my PC using wife shut down my Apple G4. She called out from the other room “How do you shut it down?” and I called back “Click on the apple and choose shutdown” and she did and then called ” I think I broke it”. When I went to look I discovered that she had just been surprised by the fact that it just went POP! and shut off. She was used to the minute after minute of crap that windows goes through to shut down.

Seeing how easy it is I wonder if there are any precautions you can take against someone who steals your computer and goes thru the same formatting procedure. The thief can have it up and running in about 15 minutes, if he knew the HD was partitioned and contained not only Windows XP but all the other software included on the T250.
