That’s a myth. I’ve never had problems using my MD units with English/Japanese versions of Sony’s software.

So everybody likes now HD5? I wonder if there will be another version of VAIO Pocket?  8)

I don’t like it at all. There are certain things about it that just seem to be very un-Sony like.

Personally, I would love a new version of the VAIO Pocket but it seems to have fallen into the “step-child” category where it will be forgotten. To this day, none of the new “Walkmans” have surpassed theVAIO Pocket in terms of usability, functionality (camera connection), style, and brilliant color screen (easily viewable in direct sunlight).

Heck, even the latest Hi-MD designs are far better than any of the of NW-HDx designs. Most of the higher MD units exude pure quality and “feel”.

It cracks me up sometimes since Sony has so many good technologies at their disposal. Here’s what I’d like to them to incorporate (at a minimum).

- OLED Screen
- Jog Dial or G-Sense hybrid for navigation
- USB Charging
- Direct USB connectivity (i.e. for photo transfers)
- Stylish MD-like body

The reason nothing looks alike is simple, divisions. I’m sure there is a MD division, Mp3 division, (Former) Clie division, Vaio division, etc.

This allows the ‘teams’ to have history with making the device, learn from mistakes, etc, but the divisions don’t play off each other very well and the good features from one rarely make it to the next one.

Yeah, I know that. Stringer is supposed to “try” to fix all of that division. It seems that there will be no more VAIO division making portable audio players and Clie is officially dead so that leaves us with the A/V group working on MDs and the Network Walkman group working on several devices….oh, and the PSP group. Argh!

WOW what is with MP3 players looking SO UGLY who is designing these things they really need to get some new people. How can a company who makes the sexxyest laptops in the world make this i smell a conspiricy!  :shock:

My theory is that they locked the guys who designed the GRX-series laptops in a room with an iPod and a box of chicklets and the boss wouldn’t let them come out until they had a player.

Well, the HD 5 really looks like a gameboy in my opinion. I’ve been out and bought a red NW HD3 - and I’d rather have this any day over the HD 5.

The 3 is a gorgeous looking unit and although here in the EU the volume level is crippled, I’ve been directed to a site that shows you how to get to the service menu and turn off the ridiculous limit.

Sound quality at Atrac3+ 256 is wonderful, but there’s no remote (stupid decision) and simply a black ‘sock’ to carry it in - they’ll probably be providing Sony branded paper bags for future products the way they are going..

I think the only benefit of the 5 series is probably the replaceable battery, but I’m sure when the time comes I’ll simply be able to order a new one for my unit and replace it myself.

Took a look at the new OLED flash players too - they look a bit like a thermometer for shoving up a cow’s arse in my opinion, and the memory is a little small for my liking but I can definitely see the market for them (bovines, beware..)

I dunno - you think you’ve exorcised your Sony demons - I sold both my TR and S thinking I’d break free, and now went out for groceries and came back with the NW HD 3.
