WTF, I parked my car for less than an hour and I saw this parking ticket on my windshield. Mofo $47 parking ticket, saying that my wheel is > 18 inc over the curb. WTF is that? I never heard of that shit before and to make matter worse, it’s $47..
How do I fight this ticket? I want to request them to submit their proof. How the hell they can measure that my car is > 18 inch over the curb? First, I would never do that in the first place, that means my car is gonna get hit if it’s too far from the curb
mofo, i hate meter maid, i really do, nothing to do… it was at f*ck1n’ 8:30 AM too, ruining my whole day
Well, the law that they teach you in driver’s education (and traffic school for that matter) is that you’re not supposed to be more than 12” away from the curb in the state of CA.
The only way to fight it is take a measuring tape and photograph your car less than 18” away from the curb. Of course, you would have to prove you didn’t move your car before the picture was taken.
Basically, you’re screwed and you should just pay it and move on. Perhaps Erik can provide a legal consultation for you… The only thing I know you can legally fight is when the city uses a parking trap and gives you a ticket. A parking trap is where the city puts up one of those “no parking on x” signs but tapes over the actual day the violation is in effect. You can fight that one assuming you take a picture of the sign to prove it.
Yeah, it sucks but there isn’t much you can do about it. I don’t know about your state, but by me you can try and go fight it, but if you lose you must cover the court costs as well as the ticket, which could raise it $100-150. IMO your better off just paying it and trying to park closer to the curb. It’s a law in most states that you must be within 1 foot of the curb. You also need to park 15 feet from a stop sign, 5-10 from a fire hydrant, etc.
man.. ca is must be the easiest place to get parking tickets. i’ve never received any parking tickets until i moved here. it’s always stupid violations such as parking on the wrong side of street @ the wrong time(street cleaning), over night parking without a permit, etc. it’s better than speeding tickets/moving violations i guess..but it still sucks.
omg stop whining you all. Got a parking ticket for parking over a yellow and cant even protest the fine in this fu***ng city. 50fucking quid .. and thats about a 100 $. So just pay up your 47 $, they’re all bastards !
psh.. just pay it. lesson learned. you couldn’t hv passed CA driver’s license test if you parked over a foot away from the curb (tho you CAN still pass if you bump the curb 2x w/ the rear wheels - ask me how i know)
I just got a $75++ speeding tix (pretty cheap actually) in the suburbs of Chicago… gdamn CHiP-looking cop was camped out in a PRIATE driveway w/ the radar gun. i had zero chance.
Ok people…9 moving violations (speeding) and 2 moving violation (speeding) warnings…this is about 1/3 of all the tickets i’ve gotten since I was 16…I’m 24 now:
I’d like to quote Michael Douglas in the In Laws:
“Tell me if I am wrong, but I see traffic signals as more of a suggestion”
Hehe. Same thing here, Erik.
I´m in Holland, and f…. tired of those speed cameras. crossed on red light, too fast, wrong way… hehe, well, most of the time it´s speeding, and all the papers are in dutch, which I don´t know jack about.
just ¨rood licht¨ or somthign like that.
I haven’t gotten a ticket by a camera or the like, only by police in their cars. Each ticket i’ve fought in court and won, I only plead guilty to one of them, I was doing 55 in a 25 and they nailed me…I was able to park before they found me but it was a small parking lot and they got me going into the store. I plead out to a 31 in a 25.
Damn, man! that´s nice. keep it that way!!!
here, though, you can´t really argue with the camera. well, you can, but they will send you a picture with you cought in the act.
in the US though, I used to give them my other licence, and then just ignore the ticket.
one story i remember, we were driving piss drunk from NY to Boston , 6 am, just beore that, we stopped at some automated gas station, got ourselves a US flag from a pole on that gas station. anyway, were doing like a 140, a cop stopped us, I actually was a awaking from his flashlight through a window. after a couple of words with him, that wwe had diplomatic passports and staff like that, and that he said that he was busy getting home, he let us go…
all those years in the us, we had many, ¨funny¨encounters with the police.
but the bottom line, they all just humans.
I keep a digital camera in the car at all times. No point in leaving it at home, and if someone steals the 2MP cam I really want a better one anyway so good excuse for me.
Sometimes they are human, sometimes they could have a bit more compassion and common sense though.
The last time I got a ticket it was from a state trooper who was influenced by the local yokel county cops in my area. They flagged me down at their self made inspection point on the street and asked for my registration which I was in the process of renewing, thinking as long as it was during my birth month it was OK. While I was waiting I turned and smiled at a passenger I was talking to in the car, guess one of the local yokel county cops thought I was making fun of them so next thing I knew I was getting a ticket. I made the mistake of pleading no contest in court so I was fined. I was so depressed I drove under the speed limit, slowpoking, to the annoyance of other drivers, for about 2 weeks. My take is the state trooper should have had a shread of mercy since I had been driving for 20 years and never had a ticket or record of any kind. A warning citation would have been more appropriate in my opinion, ya know? Guess thats why I held it against them. Then I thought awhile, and since I work for the state I figured I would get recompense and thensome by taking 2 or 3 sick days off; sort of a holiday protest for me. Indeed I was sick, just sick of the state. The ticket just didn’t seem fair, so I got my little revenge… a “sick out” protest.
Maybe that’s partly why the camera now has a home in my car…Crap happens, but a digital photo of a poorly painted handicap parking space, a 16” distance to the curb, etc will blow it away and make the ticket issuer look bad. Hey, even a cell phone these days can have a decent cam built in. And if someone hits and decides to run I can get a shot of the fleeing car and its tag. Just makes sense to have a cam handy.

16” is too much in Florida? Dumb…
You had better have that camera in ur windshield and have it instantly take pic’s once ur airbag goes off otherwise it wont do any good… Got in an accident Thursday from some f*ck trying to get across 3 lanes at once… We couldn’t see him till he was 10 feet in front… smashed our bumper off… majorly f*cked up his b-pillar area and the idiot ran knowing he’d be liable… Stupid $hit….
in poland, as a foreigner, you can just pay off the cop with 20 EUR to get out of a speeding ticket (the cops only make about 300 EUR per month!). if they catch you on video you have no chance to “negotiate”...the crime is already documented in the system.
Actually the 16” was just an example number; I never worry about curb distance in Florida. In fact, generally I am one of those guys who parks where no one else does way off from the store in the lot but takes up two parking spaces. I got too many door dings from apathetic drivers on my last car, a ‘93 Camaro, and I don’t want any on my 2003 black Mustang GT. (I buy a car every ten years; I don’t understand why people lease.)
Incidently one of my friends just got side swiped from a hit and run driver yesterday. His insurance ran out a couple of days ago. I paid my vehicle off with one of those 0% APR for 1 year credit card offers so I could only carry minimal insurance and avoid car payment interest. In fact I was late on that credit card payment one day and was steamed at the $39 penalty and $89 finance charge they started so I just transferred the $9800 balance to another 0% for 6 months offer. That’s the only way to go for me; credit card hedgehopping. The other way is not to get in debt of course, but I should be able to pay it all off easy before December…am I rambling too much?
