Hi guys, just wonder if there’s difference between them since both use AES encyrption method..

i thought only WPA2 support AES. WPA relies on the RC4 encryption algorithm and TKIP while WPA2 uses AES + CCMP(the security protocol used by AES.. the equivalent of TKIP in WPA)

thanks for your information Linc, but I’m a bit confuse here, my wireless G router is only WPA certified but it allows the use of both AES and TKIP. When I try to set wireless security on my laptop (Intel 2200BG), it also allows me to choose either AES-CCMP or TKIP encryption method in WPA-PSK. Btw, I use Intel ProSet v 9.0.1.0 which supports WPA2 as well.

TKIP is the default standard for WPA as defined in the official standard for
WPA . if your router and laptop both support AES encryption then it should work fine.
i guess there are some that impliment AES encryption under WPA, as well as having the default standard of TKIP.

You know guys when I use WPA-PSK-TKIP, I always have certain disconnection problems even though I turned off the AP watchdog on the Administration settings..  Plus when I am connected I can’t see my desktop computers shared files!!  But when I use AES, it’s perfect.. no disconnection and I can see the shared folders on the other desktops.. 

If any of you has this same problems or has an answer it’ll be great for enlightenment..  :idea:

But I sure like to use TKIP without those problems because my PocketPC supports TKIP only.. not AES..

And while you’re at it.. Frameburst.. is it good or bad? for 802.11G or 802.11B

what wireless card are u using now? If u’re using Intel 2200BG you can try using the latest Intel Proset which supports all latest encryption method including WPA2. Or you can try a different firmware for you linksys router. Here is the link for the latest beta official and non official firmware at http://www.linksysinfo.com.
