Damn Sony! I just barely got the one I have and I love it. Of course, adding the Firewire port helps tremendously so I may just have to upgrade even though I’ve only used my VRD-VC10 about 20 times only.
Additionally, it now lets you use DVD-R/RW discs for the realtime recording as opposed to only DVD+R/RW before. So, what was damn good to begin with is even better. Go Sony.
That pisses me off. Honestly, I would have upgraded before I purchased 200 -R discs…and since I am never going to use it with a PC I have no need for the firewire.
If they would have added component or Video Out, maybe.
Well, the Firewire is handy if you’re using it with your DV video camera. I often want to quickly dump my DV to DVDs quickly and definitely wouldn’t mind a pure digital conversion as the quality would likely be better instead of the digital->analog->digital transfer I normally do (if not going through a computer).

Hmm…didn’t think about that. Damn you.
BTW, are you getting as much use out of this thing as I am? I’ve recorded over 65 DVDs, some of them with 2-3 full movies on them. I recorded Tears of the Sun on a DL in high quality…I tivo’d it from my HDTV signal. It came out so beautiful I couldn’t believe it. Honestly, one of the best investment’s i’ve ever made.
Man that really makes me want the new model. I only got the old one in Jan. but if it would be possible to transfer from camcorder via firewire i think it would be worth the upgrade. As it stand I never have used it to record analog sources, I just use it for a DVD burner with my S270. So maybe an upgrade really isn’t needed. Well if anyone wants to purchase my old one so I can get the new one, please let me know and make an offer. Damn Sony, I know as soon as I buy this one they will make a better one that will function as a standalone dvd player. :(

Ye you know Sony.. that is how they progress ... they also introduced internal and external DRX-800 series supporting both DVD+& -R DL.
[quote author=“tifosiv122”]I am going to ask for $175 for mine. The old one has been discounted to $275, I think $100 off retail is fair.
Any ideas?
Erik
The lowest price for a new VRD-VC10 is $239 (Newegg) so your price is very fair. I was hoping to get somewhere around if not closer to $200 (if I’m lucky) if I sell it since I feel I have barely used it.
Picked it up for $250 shipped, I couldn’t use the coupon because I already used it in the past (its for new members and they link you via CC).
Some things i’ve noticed:
1. Nothing much has changed.
2. I had an ‘open’ VC10 DVD that the VC20 couldn’t read. Yup, I had to finalize it, the VC20 wouldn’t let me add to it. Lucky I was able to finalize or else it would have been a coaster.
3. Call me nuts, but it’s a bit faster for initialization and finalization…woohoo!
So, if you’re going to upgrade, finish you’re DVDs first.
