[quote author=“Guest”]has anyone tried this:
Getting the Motion Eye to work: Go to device manager (under system in the control panel) At device manager, look under USB section. You should see 4 USB Root Hub. Open up the 3rd one, under the second tab you should see Sony Communication VC10 as one of the entry in the hub. If you can’t see that, you may want to choose one of the other 4 root hub. When you find the right root hub, go to the 4th tab and uncheck “allow power panel to shut down device … “. Then hit OK or Apply. Restart your computer. After restarting, now if you go to control panel and under scanner / camera, you should see the Sony visual communication device there. If you double click on it, it should start a capture wizard. If the wizard is running, then we are doing right so far. If not, turn off all the “allow power panel to shut down device†on the rest of the root hubs and restart the TR1 and try again. Once you completed step 1 to 3 and verify the camera can be operated; now you may want to try the camera with other application such as NetMeeting or so on to make sure it is working. When everything works, now you can install the Japanese Network Smart Capture 1.3 and it should function well.
you tried it? and it works?

 it s exactly what i get….
About the power manager thing. That s how i got my camera to work the first time (a while ago). But i have checked today the power manager is uncheked. So it must be something else. Plus as we can see on the picture the camera seems to work…. but with a black screen…. frustration
please invisiblefly let me know if you ever solve our prob. Tks

All i did was doa windows update…
Is this what other peoples look like. If i put by hand in front of the camera, it goes all white.

Okay, I bit the big one and invested $161 (includes shipping) for a Sony Part Number BCX-U7 camera part for the TR2A. I replaced it tonight and low and behold, it now works. You can get the part from Spare Parts Warehouse. They shipped it the next day. I would try a full restore from CD first. If the camera does not work after that, it’s probably the camera.
Anyway, hope this helps all of you out there. It’s nice to have the camera back in action, but definitely not worth it if it breaks again.
Good luck everyone!

How difficult was the replacement.
Can you give Pictures/Small Tutorial?
How do you dissassemble the camera part, i didn’t understand the previous post.

To replace the camera, follow these steps:
1) Remove the LCD bezel. To do this, remove the 4 rubber plugs with a small pick. Be careful not to scratch the bezel. Once the plugs are out, remove the 4 screws underneath.
2) Remove the remaining 2 plugs and the screws underneath.
3) Separate the LCD bezel from the cover using your finger nails. You don’t need to completely separate these two parts, just enough to work around the motion eye.
4) Remove the Motion Eye. There will be wires attached so be careful. The lens cover is not screwed on. The Motion Eye case is actually in three pieces. The front lens cover, the center that holds the electronics and hinges and the back cover. The lens cover it is keyed to the center part of the case. To remove the lens cover, just use your thumb and slide it to the right and it will come off.
5) Remove the 2 screws that hold the center piece to the back cover and pull them apart.
6) Disconnect the wires and take it out.
Assembly is the reverse. You may want to take a couple of pictures along the way for re-assembly.

I think it’s pretty well established at this point that it’s a hardware issue. The symptoms are consistant over a broad range of users and even a few full restores won’t solve the problem. In theory, your warrantee should absolutely cover this issue. My experience with Sony support is that you will be fighting them tooth and nail to convince them it’s not a software issue. (a store warrantee may be less of an issue) I don’t think Sony has a no-bad-pixel policy, so they won’t replace just the LCD. if you send it in on the camera issue, who knows what will be replaced…
