If Seagate’s 7200RPM consumer power like 5400RPM products then I’ll be quite happy. Seagate’s 5400RPM drive which I’m using in my S170P sucks power like a 4200RPM drive and is noticeably quieter than the original 5400RPM HGST drive that came with the system.
120GB is nice but I’m still waiting for the fabled 100GB 7200 model to come out. It was last announced in like November/December 2004 and its availability is still mostly non-existant. I know OEMs are getting them first but still…it’s almost 6 months later after it was announced.
I’m wondering if the next gen perpendicular recording drives will be more power efficient since the bits will be packed tighter than before…
