Does anyone have opinions on what factory software to keep, and what to uninstall?  I just bought a T250P/L and there is a lot of VAIO stuff on there that looks like it may be useless, but I am never sure what I might screw up.  VAIO control center, VAIO media center, multiple dvd and music players burners, Soundmax—the list goes on and on.

This may be an old topic, but I paged through the forum and couldn’t find anything on it.

:shock:  Maybe its just coincidence but a freak one….are you carlos? the guy i sold the t250 P. If not, im gonna answer anyway, the only posibble software to use is the sonicstage and vaio media, all the other is totally useless (at least for me).

You may just want to keep some of it on there if you’re not entirely sure. You may find the software on there useful so it never hurts to try it out first. If you already have your own software you like to use then you can always remove it. As long as you have your recovery discs then it shouldn’t matter if you remove something since you can always reinstall it if necessary.

Here are the ones I would recommend, that are important to the function of the notebook:
- Hotkey Utility. This lets you use the five buttons on the hinge.
- Memory Stick Formatter.
- Setting Utility.
- SoundMAX.  This is the audio driver.
- Sony Certificate PCH, Utilities DLL, Video Shared Library.  Libraries and dependencies for various Sony apps.  Negligible size, but could be important.
- VAIO Control Center.
- VAIO Power Management.
- VAIO Update.
- Wireless Switch Setting Utility.

The rest are more or less added-value software that aren’t necessary to operate your notebook.  I kept Media, Media Server, SonicStage, VAIO Zone, Picturegear,  RecordNow!

Thanks for the input everyone.  One question:  I made the recovery disks and got rid of the recovery partition, but now the computer keeps reminding me to make the recovery disks (even though I already did it).  Any way to turn this reminder off?

eCOMMMOndUDE:  Nope, it wasn’t me, got mine online from Circuit City.

run msconfig and you should find art.exe at Startup tab, delete it.
it is VAIO recovery application.
