given that the X has such a small HD i was hoping to use the Acronis SafeZone/Startup Manager to image my OS partition to an external drive before loading into windows.  unfortunately, external, firewire HD’s are not recognized at boot, and thus not present in Acronis.  anyone know of a workaround?

I dont know much about if X can detect USB and firewire devices as legacy devices except its USB floppy and iLink optical drives.
I also used Acronis TrueImage in my X, T and desktop. On my X and T, I can boot Acronis by press F11 and it can detect my USB2.0 HD. I dont have FW HD so I dont know about them.
To let Acronis see USB devices in recovery mode, when you create Bootable Rescue Media, you should plug usb devices in to your laptop.

I got Sony VAIO hard drive with i.Link interface (PCGA-HDM06*) and it also fails to be used with Ghost. I did some search and it seems like it needs some firewire drivers to be initialized on boot up, but I still could not figure it out yet. Ghost writes an image to a USB external HD, all I need is to figure out the i.Link drive to work with my X as well. I’d be glad to see some resolutions if anybody can assist?

I don’t know about Acronis, but Ghost boots and runs in some flavor of DOS. You will need to find a DOS Firewire driver and modify the autoexec.bat and config.sys files that Ghost boots to.

If you like the graphic novels, you will like the movie. Rodriguez and Miller made an almost ridiculous effort to make the movie a moving representation of the comic. It didn’t really work as a movie, but it was damn fun to watch. Micky Rourke ruled. 8)

Great movie, I saw it twice. I think girls don’t get it though, the first time I had to explain Josh Hartnetts role (in the end) to my GF, the second time we needed to explain it to my friends sister. The later also didn’t pickup the connection in the bar scene where the stories intersected.

Nice combination of three stories/novels.

Acronis’ bootable recovery partition can see both USB and Firewire attached devices. It’s running a modified version of Linux so it has the drivers to see those kinds of devices.

thanks for all the responses, even the ones about the movie.  i do have the acronis bootable recovery partition installed, but unfortunately, it does not recognize my Sony VAIO HDM06 iLink HD.  it does work with the USB drive.  oh well, i was hoping to use the iLink ones as they are neat and tidy with their included, stowable cords.
