I have had my T250 for about 2 months now and realized I can scroll up or down web pages that are large enough to scroll without holding any buttons. I just run my finger up or down the edge of the trackpad vertically where it meets the frame. It only works on the right side of the trackpad though. Anyone else notice this? Extremely convienient! :D
Yeah it’s a feature that I use all the time for scrolling as it handily replaces the wheel on a mouse. I think most trackpads have this feature these days. If you look in the mouse settings in control panel you can apply some other functions to the corners etc.
sorry to piss on your bonfire though my 5 (or is it 6 now) year old vaio has that functionality, and it could do other stuff, like minimise, maximise and close windows by running your finger in other various directions…. though i believe you have to enable them on the alps touchpad driver once you enable those functions…
It’s a nice feature, but personally I turn all that stuff of. I have a habit of letting my thumb drag on the touchpad while I’m typing. All of a sudden, I’m not typing where I think I’m typing. I prefer a BT mouse. If you don’t want to go to the control panel to set these functions, you probably have a picture of the track pad in the task bar (lower right corner of the screen). With the default configurations, you usually have to click the little “<<” arrorw to “unhide” the icon.
Personally I prefer a mouse also, in fact I have a BT mouse, yet I think this is a great little thing to have when I dont have a level surface for a mouse. I figured it was old news but it is a very cool discovery for me. Thanks for the comments.
I note that you prefer using a BT mouse and I am much the same. Can you confirm though if there is a quick and easy way of automatically disabling the touchpad if a BT mouse is detected (in the same way that some laptops used to automatically disable the touchpad when a PS/2 mouse was plugged in). I have a real problem typing on laptops with touchpads as I invariably rest on the touchpad which moves the cursor all over the place.
In Control Panel / Mouse / Function, you can disable Web Assstand and Scrolling. Going to the tapping tab, you can disable all tapping (upper left checkbox). But I don’t think this is what you are asking. I have not found a way to automatically enable/disable such functins based on the presence of another mouse (BT or USB).
That “may” do it although I was hoping for a similar feature to the HP laptops, which have a shortcut button (or button on the touchpad itself) which switches it on/off. I have a feeling that it is the tap/double tap functionality which causes problems when typing so if you can disable all tapping on the mouse pad then that will work a treat.
Yes there is a hide cursor whilst typing (well definitely if you have the MS drivers installed). Unfortunately it does just that and does not disable the double tap functionality on the touchpad.
This is where I struggle as the mouse moving around whilst typing is not a problem, but as I type I must be brushing against the touchpad and it must be seeing this as tapping, and as such it moves me to a completey different area whilst typing and unless I am looking at the screen I end up typing in completely the wrong place
You can disable the track pad while working with a bluetooth mouse.
Control Panel/Vaio Control Center/keyboard and Mouse/Built in pointing device/open
There you can disable built in pointing device (trackpad) and use only the BT mouse; just make sure you have it connected and working before disabling the trackpad…

Thanks, buddy. On my computer, it’s all programs / sony notebook setup. I even got a nice warning prompt. I won’t tell you how much time I spent looking for this before I read your post.
