“The M1’s enhanced video functions include recording with the new MPEGMovie 4TV feature, the MPEG-4 compression format that significantly increases picture quality and resolution while dramatically reducing file size. Employing a reduced bit rate (from 11Mpbs to 2.5 Mpbs), MPEGMovie 4TV mode enables the recording of up to 27 minutes of VGA-resolution, 30-frames-per-second video with stereo sound on an optional 512 MB Memory Stick PRO Duoâ„¢ media card, or up to 54 minutes with the optional 1GB card, available soon. “
Interestingly enough I was told today that the reason the LCD is on the right on the T7 is to force the user to use both hands as Sony was getting a lot of complaints about dropped T1s.
Anyone want to chime in if they believe this is the actual reason?

Erik
I was told the screen was moved because the camera was so thin that the folded optics and screen couldn’t fit on the same side. What you were told makes sense too though, I’ve dropped my T1 on multiple occasions but was saved by the geeky wrist strap.
I find that really hard to believe. I use my T1 one handed all the time and often without using the strap around my wrist. I’m wondering if a lot of people were trying to hold the camera with 2 or 3 fingers (thumb on bottom and index finger on top) which could explain it.
I use 4 fingers. I rest the T1 on the pad below my thumb so my thumb reaches the Wide and Tight controls. My middle finger opens and closes the cover and my index finger is over the capture button. My ring finger and middle finger firmly keep the camera cradled in my palm.
the DSC-M1 can record MP4 in:
640x480 30fps
320x240 30fps
320x240 15fps
If you use 640x480 you can’t play it back on the PSP, but if you use the 320x240 modes, you can stick the Duo straight into the PSP and watch it. It’s pretty cool, I tried this with the M1 at my local Circuit City to see for myself that it does work. The M1 even automatically created a .THM file.
I also compared a 640x480 30fps MP4 from the DSC-M1 to a 640x480 30fps MPEG from my DSC-F828. The MP4 is WAY better.
That’s good to know. I hope that Sony transitions all of their digital cameras to the newer MPEG4 codec so we can get more video out of our memory cards.
Held the T7 today for the first time. It was a bit awkward because my right thumb kept touching the LCD display. You can hold it with one hand (barely) but there is no way to reach any of the side buttons.
The unit does turn on very quickly from sliding the cover down…and it’s light and thin as anything i’ve ever seen.
My main gripe (besides the lack of being able to reach those buttons) are that it uses a different battery then the T1-33. Its the same type, but about 30% shorter. As a test we took out a T1 battery and placed it in the T7 (it had to stick out) and the T7 worked fine but obviously we couldn’t close the door. This means that my 3 batteries are useless to me. (as is my external charger).

Cannon lost my business years ago with a string of terrible printers. Besides, I am sticking with MS Duo…I have too many Sony devices not to.
Yeah, I’m not huge fan of Canon printers but I must give them credit on their digital cameras. They make exceptional digital cameras. They may not be as flashy as Sony but they are reliable and take great pictures. My first “true” digital camera was a Digital IXUS (aka Elph aka IXY), the 2MP model that was the smallest of its kind at the time. Once I learned to fully control it, it was an amazingly versatile camera. In fact, I still have it for nostalgic puposes.
well at least people know canon probably make the best consumer digi cams, well ok and slr digi cams too oh and probably non digi slr cameras, then thats cool
...sorry its just i cant help it, i dont think i can find it in me to switch from canon to another make in the digi cam industry ive been so happy with my camera (ixus v3).
Before the digital camera revolution they had released the analogue ixus which paved way for stainelss steel cameras, before that they were all palstic, and i do believe they shaped the market for the smooth metal look found in most of todays cameras.
