hey
we just bought a Samsung 46” DLP-Projection TV at BestBuy. It was just delivered today andwhen i use the $50 Monster component cables my mom bought, the picture looks all green and even changing the settings doesn’t help.  Does this mean one of the cables (like the red most likely right?) is bad? She keeps saying how horrible the res is with S-Video and is completely freaking out about how i got her to get this TV and now all these problemsc :evil: ... Could you let me know what you think while I mess around with it more?

(BTW, i know it is the cables or something because the pic—while supposedly distorted according to my mom—is fine with the S-Video and RCA cables and it works fine with DVI for my Mini)

Easiest thing is to pickup a new set of cables…in fact, any RCA cables will work…Just use the Red/Yellow/White as Blue/Green/Red.

If it happens again, then the TV is prob. defective.

Another test you could try is to swap the red and blue cables to see if you get a yellow picture.

huh? was this a joke? Yellow is the only video cable with composite cables…

They are all the same cables…you can mix/match them. Swap a Yellow for a White, won’t matter.

well it doesnt matter anymore as i think i just shorted the 3 component 1 ports on the back trying Drachens thing (it was teal not yellow.. w/e that means)... who cares my mom said she is returning it anywayz…

It’s not possible to short anything like that by plugging in audio/video cables. Essentially all the cables (except S-Video and DVI) are identical. It doesn’t matter if they are White/Yellow/Blue/etc…same cable. They color code it so it’s easier to connect your items.

You can swap component cables for RCA and vise versa.

Most likely your TV was defective, and one of the inputs was shot.

The big-secret-Monster-doesn’t-want-you-to-know is that unless you go really high end, cable is cable. A cheaper alternative to Monster’s 14 guage speaker cable is Home Depot’s 14 guage lamp cable. A hi-fi mag (which one, escapes me) did a comparison and the results were identical.

Did you switch both ends or just the ones plugged into the TV? If you changed both, I’d bet the cable was bad. A good cable should still give the same tinting effect. All bets are off if you switched just the ends in the TV.

yea… i only switched the sides on the TV.. but it turns out the first set of ports were just defective… i nearly yanked them out as i was pulling the cables out. but at least i kno it wasnt…all… me ... it works fine on the other set which for some reason i hadnt though to try…oops. Yea well she is still b*tching that its too big and blah blah blah so its most likely going back (i cant believe im related to her honestly… i wanted the 52”  )
