I want to buy the best TR model. Is this the TR5MP? What is the latest fastest model?

Is there a comparison chart somewhere of the series? as I still see TR1’s floating about being sold as a TR5MP

i think the fastest is a 1.1mhz second generation P-M (2mb cache?) bluetooth dvd-rw 802.11g

Yes I know, but I wanted to know which was the most powerful model as I want to purchase a used one.

TR5 is most powerfull with Pentium M 1.1GHz processor 718 w/1MB L2 cache.
Let try a new T series?

i believe the T has a 1.2 processor now. 

but your bottle neck will be in your HD.  the 1.8” arent’ that fast

T series is new replace for TR series.
Its performance can only be compared with similar series such as TR.
Below are some significant differents between T and TR series.
T series used Pentium M 1.1 and 1.2 GHz with 2MB L2 cache while TR has only 1MB L2 cache.
T series used PC2700 (333MHz) RAM bus, TR is PC2100 (266MHz) RAM bus
T is now dont have integrated webcam.

Both T n TR use 1.8” hard drive.
With T250 n above, they use 60G 1.8” hard drives.
TR5 use 40G 1.8” hard drive.

But they consume less power than 2.5” so you have longer battery life.

Oh well that’s a shame, I have a 2.5 7200rpm drive that I wanted to just swap from my larger sony to the TR but I have used the 1.8” before and I was not at all impressed by the performance, speed and noise..

Damn! I really wanted to downsize.

At present I have a 17” A117S and use it heavily.  thought I could use the TR instead with docking station + screen. Oh well!

You could look at the Sony S series of laptops.  I believe they use 2.5” drives and have a 13” screen (if memory serves me).

i believe there was a few TR’s with 2mb cache… but it was right at the end… just as they discontinued the model

as for the hd vs battery life… i guess i can’t argue with you on that.  i don’t know too many computers that’ll run 4 hrs on their standard battery.
