Hi-

I am doing the reinstall but i keep coming up against problem after problem getting through it one by one but there is two problems that are similar and I wonder if anyone knows what it could be.

when i try to dl from MS it is either SO slow or time out alot of the time and now i just loaded up norton AV and i am having the same problem where it would start to DL the updates and the stop and gives me an error about a lost connection etc…

I am also now trying to dl ZA and its stopping in the middle of the DL.

what could this be from?

i did dl SP2 is there anything i need to change for internet connections?

I’m assuming this is a continuation of your SP2 install. Try clearing out all your temp files and Temporary Internet Files and maybe to a chkdsk and a defrag just for the hell of it before trying to download SP2 again. Have you had any other weird things happen or programs acting screwy since the restore?

Two things to check.

1. Does the problem still occur if you’re connected directly via a cable? If not, then it’s a wireless zero config issue. If so, then it might be something else.

2. Is the Network Bridge installed in your Network Connections? If so, remove all devices from it and delete it.

i dont even remember where i have been what i have posted (my head hurts) 

i had a problem with MS and dl sp2 etc etc so i did another reinstall of xp pro then i did a sp2 install (which is on now) the only thing that is screwy right now is the dl it seems to stop alot.

what could this be from?

1. No the plugged in cable seems to work fine.

2. I do not see a bridge!

So, it’s definitely the wireless causing the problem since it works fine plugged into the ethernet. In theory, SP2’s Wireless Zero Config should be good enough…however, if you’re dropping connections it could either be the Wireless router, too many 2.4Ghz devices in your area or other people using the same channel for their wireless, or simply a finicky installation.

You can always try using the Intel PRO/Wireless ProSet utilities that essentially disable WZC and take control of connections. It can be a better solution in “noisy” areas since it’s profile based and can be forced to lock onto a specific connection and no other (unlike WZC which likes to jump around).

is that the atheros thing?  i didnt load that up yet?  you gave me that a long time ago and it saved me!  is that what i need?

Oops, are you running the Netegrity card in yours? I forgot…if so, then yes, you’ll need the Atheros drivers/utilities for it. They work pretty well.

I dont know but i have used the aethros utility for 1.5 years when you gave it to me or told me about it.

Don’t want to worry you rabbit but when I started having trouble with my wireless card (dropped connections, slow transfers etc) it actually turned out to be the card that had died and I got a new one… Just something to consider if nothing else works :?

would that be covered under my warranty.  i just went to DL itunes and i had to start and restart the DL 5 times because it wouldnt take.  the weird part is i purposely was surfing the web as i was DL the itunes program and i had a perfect connection surfing at the time.  the other thing is transfered about 4 gig of pictures from one computer to the TR wirelessly with no problems.  so thats weird as well.

does this help me in determining what might be wrong? its really getting me crazy!!

i figured it out someone on a ms forum actually refered me to dl drtcp and for some reason my mtu setting was set to 1300 and i reset it to 1500 (which is for cable) and now all seems well!! 

Why would my mtu setting for the internal wireless card get set to 1300 on a reinstall?  Strange indeed!

Thought I would share it since there wasnt any response and if someone else finds themselves in my situation.
