Are you talking about the PSP not being able to display pictures taken from a Sony camera? Because I have the Sony DSC-F828 and take pictures at max resolution .JPG and they display perfectly straight out of the camera and onto the PSP.
Also, about the PS2 not using Memory Sticks, I also thought that was the dumbest thing ever. But I agree I’m sure it was for the backwards compatibility reasons, and also because they still are charging up to $39.99 for 8MB PS2 Memory Cards!!
I always hoped they would come out with a PS2 Memory Card to Memory Stick adapter (since they made them for everything else, even floppy disks), but they didn’t. I agree they missed out on a lot of opportunities with the PS2, but it’s nice to see a lot of things going in the right direction now with the PSP.
