For those of you who are reinstalling the OS from scratch and want to avoid loading all of the Sony software (including PowerProfile), you may want to check out this program.

Basically, it works with Windows XP’s built-in power management to allow you to define the power profiles and control the CPU speed. It’s basically a lot like Intel’s Speedstep for Win9x and Win2k OSes.

You have the option for Max Performance, Max Battery, Dynamic Switching, Battery Optimized.

The only thing it doesn’t do is control screen brightness and powering on/off the MS slot and optical drive. However, if you don’t care about those you can use this software.

Hmm, that’s a pretty nice utility.  I have a clean XP Pro install on a TR2/B and it works quite well, thanks for the pointer!

But Grooyone(and everyone else), how do we control our power/speed settings without using this programme? For my Toshiba, I got a cool “Power Saver Utility”. But for the Sony, there seems to be no program for it?

You control everything using Sony’s Power Panel software that’s installed when you get the system. It’s actually the best power management software I’ve seen as it allows you to tweak every single part of the system for power savings. Additionally, it can change settings on the fly depending on what application you’re using and not simply depending on if it’s plugged in or not.

There’s also a performance balancer utility included which allows you to control how the processor behaves; however, I believe that Power Panel overrides those settings.

Oh no, my supplier reinstalled the TR2/B with the Windox XP Pro and I guess I don’t have the Power Panel anymore… where can I find it?

It should be on the Application CDs that are supplied with the TR. You may have to jump through some hope when installing it since you’ll probably need to install the Sony the Sony library files (also included on the cds) first.

Oh no, this is getting crazy. There are no applications CD that came with it? Any hope??

Just realised that I still had the Power Panel folder, but I don’t know which file start the program… hrm, I’ve almost tried every program (.exe) file.
I wonder how many programs are missing…

Yeah you are much better off with PowerPanel. I’ll help you out Sleepless if I can tomorrow. Been reading this forum for a bit and it doesn’t seem like Sony have changed how things work since my Z600 or Z1 so should be OK. I know all the apps and drivers that are required, install orders and such from my previous models.

Hey FastLaneJB. Thank you so much! I think there are some more little programs missing which I don’t know yet. The most important thing I want to get working now is the Motion Eye(which is working fine in MSN Messenger and as a standalone, but its not ‘connected’ to the Network Capture) and also the Power Panel. As long as these 2 works, I guess I can make do without the rest of the other little programs.

Perhaps you guys should tell me what programs Sony has that make the TR click. 

And you are right from the previous mail. I do have more time now compared the money. But not too much time too! This TR is supposed to be a present for my friend. Haha, so I gotta bid it farewell a few days later…  :oops:
