[quote author=“Drachen”]Mike, that’s a kind of unusual resolution even nowdays. Most out there are 4:3 rather than 16:9. My suggestion is to get your hands on Paint Shop Pro or Photoshop Elements and learn to resize and crop. As far as where to get desktop wallpapers, Deviantart, pixelgirlpresents and neowin.net all rule.
1680x1050 is the new “in” resolution for the latest widescreen monitors. It’s in Dell’s two 20” Widescreen LCD monitors, Apple’s 20” Monitor, and many new notebooks. Of course, it’s not a cinematic 16:9 but rather a 16:10 aspect ratio.
Oh, and ditto to what Drachen said…i found it on Pixelgirl and yeah, any cheap photo app can help you make your own desktops. I would look for 1600x1200 (very popular size) backgrounds and then do one of two things:
1. Resize the image to 1680x1260 (a perfect upsample). Then crop the vertical height down to 1050. You’ll lose some of the image obviously and you can use your discretion on what’s less important.
2. Crop the 1600x1200 picture to 1600x1024 (another 16:10 resolution) and let Windows stretch it out to fill your desktop.
A very decent and free photo editing application is Paint.NET 2.x .
