Couldn’t uninstall bios update and also powerpanel woundn’t install after I removed it. I’m removing hotfixes one by one and trying camera after each one. So far nothing. If after removing rest of hotfixes I will restore again. I’ll keep you updated. If anyone has any suggestions I’m willing to listen. BTW, I got an email back from SpareParts Warehouse. That little board that the lens is on inside the motion eye is $135. Don’t know if I want to dish that out yet since not knowing if camera is hardware or software issue.

You want to take the back cover off the motion eye by running your nailslong the edge of cover. Make sure its the back cover and NOT the cover that says motion eye on it. Once that is off you will see 2 small screws. Take those out and the whole board and lens should fall out once the white connector is separated from the board. You can take the rest of the plastic motion eye cover out by pulling it out of the LCD cover to the right. If you have ab ny questions let me know. Its really only a 2 minute job.

Craig_p: from your previous message I understood that you uninstalled the hotfixes and SP2 (“removed all hotfixes…”). There is not guarantee that uninstalling will remove a conflicting component, specially if it is an OS element. I will do some extra testing on the weekend and maybe we can nail this one down. I would not bet on a hardware problem yet… too many people suddenly have the same problem.
Best,
Marcelo

I tried so many things within the last 24 hours its making my head spin. Install , remove, new OS, putting in library and utilities in order and on and on. I have another idea I’m trying while I’m typing this (on my iMac). I plugged in a floppy drive and reformatting before installing the Sony system CDs. I’ve deleted the D: drive so now I have 1 40G C: drive. The Sony CD should install without any bits and pieces being left over from other installs, so everything should work like it did when new. I’ll let everyone know in a bit.

I’m still formatting the drive and reading posts as they come in. I just can’t believe Sony doesn’t know about this problem and won’t even try to help with the fix.

Unfortunately no good news here. Forrmatted from a floppy installed recovery system and applications, turned off and on the power management within the USB hub for the camera still nothing. I’m still thinking of what to try next. Hey, how about that reset button on the bottom??? Does anyone know what actual purpose that serves??? I think I’ll try some different things in conjunction with that reset.

I am very much looking forward to your findings!!!
My TR1 camera stopped working about 3 or 4 months ago and I can’t pinpoint it, either. Mine worked fine for over a year and a half…

Sorry, nothing new to report. Tried pushing reset button in with smart capture camera opened. The TR turned off and when I turned it back on there was still nothingWhen I open up “My Computer” and right clicked on the camera. I hit the test button and it came up with camera working properly. Hardware or software problem?? I just don’t know anymore. I’m at a complete standstill. I think the meaning of life would be easier to figure out than this camera.

I have same exact issue: Black sceen occasional scan line. (TR1)
I was sure it was a hardware failure of a cheap IC chip camera but now you guys have given me some hope (abeit , most likely false hope)
THis really is a nasty bug as I use the camrera every day.
If someone can get the hardware replaced we will know for sure.

I have a TR1T from Taiwan, most of research I found suggest that it is a hardware related problem. I have called Sony Parts got this part number “BCX-U7” for $138.48 + Tax & Shipping of $6.95.
The motion eye only lasted a little over a year and it cost about $150 to replace it.
Has anyone actually replace it? I am a little hesitatd to spend that much money toward a old system….

I’ve taken mine out about a half dozen times just to see if I could jar something to make it work again. I never replaced it with a new one since I didn’t know if camera not working was a hardware or software problem. I didn’t feel like spending $150. to find out. If I ever did get it working I know I wouldn’t use it much. Its just fun trying. It looks like that new Sony clip on USB Web camera would fit in its space where the Motion Eye is except you would have the cord dangling all the time. I’ve seen them on eBay for $70. so it seems like a cheap alternative.

Have you guys reached any solution. I am also having the same problem. I suspect it has got something to do with power settings as my Motion Eye was working fine. I did not install any thing at all. but those days i was using the system on battries and many times it hibernated or shut down bcz of low battery.
Please let all know if some one finds the solution
