If 100Mb/s via ethernet is too slow for you then use a firewire cable between the two systems and transfer at 400Mb/s. That should be more than enough bandwidth for your transfer.
Would pbb be cheaper to go the firewire route too. Many modern mobos already have integrated firewire. Gigabit is still in infancy at the consumer level, so chances are you’ll have to buy NICs for both computers. Furthermore, firewire uses the connection more efficiently .
Another option might be a USB 2.0 transfer cable . Personally never tested these though, as firewire does a good enough job of high speed transfers for me.
