okay first percy, do u have the same model 710 as i do? it’s the external writer in the silver case?
for testing burn, are u using nerovisionExpress 3 to compile your movie files, create a menu, and then burn? try that, and then select BURN TO IMAGE RECORDER at the end of the wizard. if the burn fails there, a log file is created with hints to the problem.
as for firmware, if you have the same model as mine, see my expieremce to update our firmaware here:
if we have the same box, i think the guts is really a liteon drive that does have firmware that is updateable, but i ruined the bridgeboard (the usb/firewire interface) in the process and had to replace that card with some degree of hassle. now i have a very ugly backend of drive indeed.
I don’t think u want to update the firmware until u get clean burns on the current version. then u want to use a firmware backup tool to save the current version. then u use another tool to update the drive’s firware. the good news is that on my drive, it burns clean in 6.6.0.6 on original firmware, but the fastest it will burn DVDs is 4x. It burns CDs at 40X. For me, that’s good enough.
well, that’s all for now. good luck.
