My uncle needs a barcode scanner. It’s use will be mainly restricted to scanning the tracking #‘s off Fedex/UPS/USPS labels. Something like those used at USPS facilites will be good but wireless would definitely be great.

One more thing…I had worked at 1 place for a few days and they got a new barcode scanner from wasp and the line was quite thick due to which the barcode area of the label needed to be held almost above it and couldn’t be scanned from even a slight distance. Basically, it was trash, so I definitely don’t want one of those.

Keeping the above in mind, could someone recommend a good one which will fit in a budget of around $300?

not sure if this helps but, i have one for my pda. i have an hp ipaq, got an srs barcode scanner for about $250 i think it was. just snaps onto the back and wha’la, full blown barcode scanner for your pda.

if its something he may want, msg me i can look through to see where i bought all the stuff from.

aren’t those the type that need to be held at almost a zero distance from the barcode while scanning? I want something which can be atleast a feet away from the barcode.

Even though they don’t mention the max distance from which a scan can be taken, they specify that the horizontal scan size is 10 in. and to be able to get that kind of size I’m sure you’d need to hold the scanner a fair distance away…like 1 to 2 feet.

Yes, it normally needs to be between an inch or two from the code.  If you need “distance”, then avoid CCD.  Go laser… You can even get laser based scanners with BT interface   Not at $79 though…

I placed my order on pagecomputers and received this thing today. These people are such cheats…besides the package being already opened earlier, it was missing crucial parts. It only had the scanner, a cd and a wasp catalog.

How on this earth can one interface it with the computer with just the scanner? Then how does one power this thing?

The pricegrabber site lists the following should have been included:

I have written the pagecomputers people a nasty email and hopefully they’ll send me what I paid for….just a warning if someone plans on shopping at pagecomputers.
