It’s a thin Mg shell over plastic. That plastic underneath will still melt.

Beyond that, the white part is all plastic…

Well if you use a quality paint you shouldn’t have any problem with scratching, at least no more then any other laptop’s paint.
If you really need to overdue it, you could always clear coat it*
Anyhow I’m looking forward to seeing the outcome.
*I’m not really sure if you can clear coat plastic but its an idea to look into.

I have seen the Clie balck and Vaios do not look good when they are shiny, they look better when they have a matt finish. I might opt for GUNMETAL color instead….sort of like burnish silver black….kind of look…if u get what i mean….
Will keep all posted….the problem i face currently is dismantling the lcd case….if any one knows how…i would appreciate

I hope it doesn’t turn out like that Clie, because that kind of looks like a park bench/tar black, and not in a good way…

Wow….that metalic mirror like look is totally awesome! It definitely rejuvenated the Z505 model…. almost like carbon fiber finish on X505SP.

Ever seen it in person? That one wasn’t tar black or smooth at all. It was a lot like powder coat matte black except smoother. It still had a nice texture to it. I loved it. It was much nicer than the gloss plastic that covers every other piece of personal technology these days.
