may be a little off-topic ... but ... I would like to get a Tablet PC as a complementation to my TR5.
Any advice or own experience?
would you choose a model with a touch screen or a digitizer pen?

i have a fujitsu, ST5000, works very well, should be what you are looking for.

I bought a Fujitsu ST5000 Series tablet with the intention of replacing my TR1. However I ended up selling the tablet after 4 months - I really underestimated the value of the keyboard for data entry (spread sheets etc) although the text recognition for writing was OK. I also had to resort to a keyboard to format word docs bes - it was far too slow on the tablet. And even though I had the table dock for the tablet, it was hard to travel with the tablet.

One thing that was really good about the tablet PC for me was using it for sketching engineering ideas and meetings to take notes/doodles etc

Maybe I did not persevere with the Tablet enough, but now I am considering the best of both worlds and going for a “lightweight” convertible - like the Fujitsu ST4010 to replace the TR and the tablet interfaces

As far as Tablet PC Windows XP - that was great and everything worked just as expected. It was just the missing keyboard.

Maybe your application will allow you to split your work between 2 machines. Good luck

I may be wrong, but if I recall correctly, all official “Tablet PCs” only use electromagnetic digitizers rather than resistive touch screens.  Its better to use digitizers for two reasons, one being you can put a nice scratch resistant hardcoat on the screen, and two being it allows for varying degrees of pressure.

The HP/Compaq TC1100 is a nice compact slate tablet with a detachable keyboard, so its a convertible-convertible.  Still, I’d say hold off unless you are of a profession which could specifically benefit from such a computer (like an artist).  Pen input is for the most part only a novelty except for users who need to illustrate or take copious amounts of notes.

my (re)search on the net brought me to the Motiom M1400. It’s supposed to have a very good display in in-door and out-door. This is very important for a tablet pc. I am also looking at the Fujitsu ST5022 which is comparable to the Motion. I must say that I did not see eithe of them. I took a quick look at the HP TC1100 you mentioned but did not work with it. The Toshiba M200 has the highst resolution screen but is too heavy in my opinion. Weight is another crucial issue with Tablet PC’s since one is supposed to carry them on one hand/arm!

Any experience with the Motion M1400 and/or the Fujitsu ST5022?
