I have the same thing except it’s the PS/2 only version (so I get PS/2 mouse and keyboard). I’m using mine on my desktop systems and it works great. It works as advertised without any special settings. All you need to do is tap the scroll lock key twice and it switches over. Simple. The only issue I have is that VGA video gets a little fuzzy at higher resolutions (1280x1024+). But for $40….it’s a steal.

should i get the ps2 or the usb version?  dont you need the usb version w/the tr?

In your case, you need the USB version if you want to use it with your TR. Sorry for the confusion. I was just referring to the functionality of the device in general and it’s pretty good for the price. I don’t think anything else comes close right now. You basically plug it in and it works.

here i am again me and my problems!!  i am getting there but still not 100%.

i am having a problem with the kvm i bought.  when i tap the scroll ock key twice the keyboard and mouse work great but nothing shows up on my flat screen monitor it just goes dark.  what can i do to get the vaio screen to show up on the desktop monitor??

The most obvious thing to check is to make sure that you are actually outputting a signal to the monitor. Right-click on the desktop -> Graphics Modes -> Output To -> Monitor (or Intel Dual Display Clone -> Monitor + Notebook).

ok i am getting somewhere now.  it is working but i have a few problems

1) for one everytime i try to swtich back from the vaio to the desktop the vaio screen goes black on both monitors.  and i cant see anything.  it took me like 20 mins to figure out to hit the on/off button on the monitor to get it on but why would it do that?

2) when i close the lid of the vaio it goes into hibernation and then the desktop screen goes black and i cant get it back unless i flip the kvm from the desktop to the laptop etc…. and then i run into problem 1 again.

i think i figured it out once again.

1) i hit the auto set button on my monitor and now it seems to switch back and forth with no problems

2)  the vaio was going into hib with when on batt power now it doesnt when on ac power.

one last question:  should i get a KVM that hooks up to the sound card?

You need to change your power profile settings to not hibernate when you close the lid. Look for “Lid Close Action”...and change it to LCD off or none.
