I have just reinstalled my S270 from scratch, with Windows XP pro, SP2. During the installation process, I made the mistake of applying the Vaio Bluetooth registry patch I downloaded from the support website.

Now I am unable to get my Targus mouse connected properly. It comes up with “HID Device installation failure”

It worked fine with my previous install - I literally took 30 seconds and it connected and installed.

Does anyone have any ideas? Where is the Sony Registry patch so I can remove it?

If it was a simple registry edit, there are two quick fixes.  The easier one is to just use system restore to roll back to a point before you applied the registry edit.  If that doesn’t work, open the registry patch (the .reg file) in notepad, and go to the location in the registry and manually delete the keys.  Note that that might cause problems if the OS expects those keys to be there.
