In case anybody remembers, I have been looking for a way to play my MP3’s in my kitchen. And after a lot of looking and some crazy ideas, I realised today that I always have my TR in the kitchen, right on the table where I planned to put some speakers—plus it’s running 24/7… And it struck me that I only need to use that!

So now I’m just going to get some of those powered speakers, the bass box with two smaller L/R units (2.1). It doesn’t have to be loud, but are there any features for which I should look? I see a lot of cheapo units and would appreciate any advice… brand, size, features, anything would be helpful.

how about klipsch promedia ultra 2.0, promedia 2.1(2 speaker 1 sub), or promedia gmx 2.0…

I use the Creative TravelSound with my TR1.  They don’t go so far as to fill a room with sound, but work fine on the desk next to my TR and pack up small for travel.  Powered by 4xAA batteries, or DC input: the input socket and voltage seems to (coincidentally) be the same as Nokia phone chargers.

I looked into all the suggestions. The entire Creative line is ok, but I couldn’t find anything there. A lot of the i-Trigue systems seem to have decent specs, but the design really doesn’t match my kitchen. No spacey stuff, I’m afraid. This is what might fit in my kitchen:

I have come across some features that are emphasised: wooden case (does this make a difference?), wired remote with a volume knob (great idea). Are these, in fact, important? Anything else for which I should look out?
