Ok, maybe this has been posted, but whats up with the “VAIO Support Agent?”  As far as I can tell, it doesnt work the way I am assuming its supposed to work.  Its on both my VAIO desktop and the TR1.

I got the link to the ftp site and found an updated copy of Click to DVD for my RZ36G desktop.  Shouldnt the VSA have picked this up? I just wonder what else has an update that the VSA is ignoring.

Anyone had any other experiences with this?

I uninstalled it the first day I got the TR and haven’t missed it. I found a blurb on another site about what it does:

The Tioga/SupportSoft.com software is also included in the Sony Support software that comes with some Sony Vaio’s and HP Pavillion’s.  The original intention of T G C M D is to have your @Home service or systems software automatically updated when you are online, to provide a remote support technician with setup information about your PC, and, in some cases, to allow the remote support technician to connect to your PC and see what you are doing – in short, technical support is indeed the original intention; unfortunately, its features are also very useful to advertisers and so, depending on who supplied it, T G C M D will also collect information from your PC, which web pages you have visited, what you have downloaded, and permission based information about your system, its software, its settings, etc…

I sent Sony support and email asking pretty much whats the deal with the VAIO support agent.  I also asked them if the software collects computer usage data.

Ill let you know the response.  Should be interesting if not humerous.

The funny thing is that in over 3 years on my VAIO SR17K the Vaio Support program has never delivered any updates or notifications, even when I know one is available and tell it to do it manually. I figured I can always reinstall it from the System Restore discs if the need arises in the future, plus it’s one less thing to run at Startup. No problems since October 2003 without it on my TR2.

I got rid of it.  Normally things like this dont bother me but seeing that ambulance there that never “came to the rescue” started annoying me.

I did reply to Sony’s answer, but havent heard anything back as of yet.

I just have to wonder what the “Internet Support Team” does.  One can only assume that its a part time job.

did u guys uninstall it? or just get rid of it from being start when windows loaded? how about uncheck it in msconfig.exe/startup

I simply unchecked it from being started…although I’ll probably uninstall it since it’s never used. I don’t anticipate ever using it and can always reinstall it from the App CDs.
