I think my TR is confusing my reg. battery and my large battery. Sometimes when I swap them out, the power panel reports the capacity of the other battery, so when charging it either shows fully charged (when it thinks the small battery is in, but the large battery is really in, and partially charged) or it gets stuck at 65% (when the small battery is fully charged but it thinks the large battery is in). BTW, I think that perhaps this was the real problem that Sillyrabit was experiencing…
Anyway, is there a way to refresh the information? The refresh button in power panel’s advanced area does not do the trick. I think I finally can get it to recognize which battery it really is upon reboot….I’ll try that again later to verfiy it.
Should I avoid switch the batteries out while the TR is in standby? Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.
I guess I should add that this does not affect that actual charging…just the status report.

I have noticed the same problem as you when exchanging the two batteries. Eventually the system corrects itself. I check a few days later and it correctly recognizes the battery. I don’t how to resolve this either.

if it doesn’t affect the actual charging and corrects it self eventually..do you really need to “hot swap” the batteries?

I almost always hot swap the batteries because it is convenient. Certainly I would shut down if this were affecting the charging, but since it isn’t, the erraneous status is simply an annoyance. If there is a way to reset the battery ID with software, then I would like to learn how. That’s all. Also, I thought SillyRabbitt might be interested in this as it sounds like the trouble mentioned in one of his posts.
Thanks for the replies.

hahah i encountered the same exact problem. The simplest and i guess the only way would be just rebooting the system. After you’ve done that, windoze read the battery ID again!

I’ve noticed the same type of problem with the power panel profiles. If I’m on battery power with adaptive CPU control, hibernate, and then awake on AC power…Power Panel doesn’t switch to performance CPU control. The profiles and options change, but my processor stays stepped down until I reboot with the AC connected.

“Hot swapping is the ability to remove and replace components of a machine, usually a computer, while it is operating. ”

If I’m not mistaken plugging and unplugging USB and firewire devices would count as hot swap too. If yes, then koldkoala, I’m sure you’ve done hot swapping yourself
I had recently read some place that some mother boards also allow hot swapping of SATA drives.
