What is everyone’s take on using the TR1 while it’s plugged into the wall, but without the battery in place?  It appears to run fine and XP just says “no battery”.  I’ve read some conflicting information about problems with recharging circuits when on AC power with no battery installed.  On the flip side, Sony’s online chat tech people said there is no problem using the computer without a battery.  (but then again, many of those tech people are still trying to figure out the difference between their a&$ and elbow)

Perhaps people who don’t use the battery while on AC power could post their long-term experiences for all of us…

I forfeited my vote since neither of the choices were applicable to me. I think all display models at stores have their batteries removed.

My uncle has an IBM laptop whose battery does not function so even though the battery is in there it needs AC power to run.

When you look at the properties, it says

<first property> (can’t remember the name) : BAD
Battery chemistry: BAD BAD BAD

I’ve been doing that (mostly years ago when the batteries were removable and the shell still remained) since my first notebook well over 10 years ago. There is nothing wrong with it and you are not damaging your notebook in any way.
