is what i suffer from .. I do all sort of things to pass away the night as i cannot find peace or sleep, neither of which have found me for the past 4 years. Its quite weird now that i think about it, how one must survive without little or no sleep.
Anybody here suffer from the same ?

I have been sleeping late (like 3 or 4 am) nowdays, but I dont think it would be insomnia in my case. However, once I start sleeping late, I find it quite hard to get back to normal sleeping times (around 12 to 1 am for me).

I’ve had some problems with insomnia. It’s like I’m thinking about too many things. I can get to sleep, but then I wake up with all kinds of thoughts racing through my head. What helps me is:
lay off the booze
get out of bed
do something quiet - which is to say, don’t turn on the computer
If I do all three, I can generally get back to sleep in an hour or two.
It’s a crazy world we live in.

I really hope I never have to suffer from this. I LOVE my sleep… nothing takes it away from me, I slept through the Northridge earthquake…
Although when I am awake I can tell you I have thousands of thing running through my head. Its like I have ADHD that only manifests itself in the night. I can’t focus on homework or anything else… this leads to my precious sleep being taken away from me. I don’t like it. Thats why I drink caffeine at night. For some reason I focus better but then when I go to bed it basically serves no purpose b/c there is no REM sleep. (Basically described in the HowStuffWorks.com article)

Im blessed with mates who have similar nocturnal problems except my girl friend who sadly sleeps at about 10. Also london, never really shuts down. Quite a few places you can find entertainment, booze and/or food at/ till about 5 am. Its all good except long term effects. My doctor says they could range from asthma to cancer with no real early prognosis. So im being treated with the valerian route for the paste 2 years now. Also lots of workout and high fluid intake is recommended.
Cheers.

Wow I never knew it was in fact considered an actual disease. I realized there were long-term effects but I thought you could just see a psychiatrist and get some good anti-psychotic medicine

good anti-psychotic medicine
From my experience, this is a oxymoron (like “military intelligence”).

If you eat a big dinner or eat before you plan to sleep you might sleep easier. After you eat blood rushes from your head to your stomach to process your meal, which makes you tired. Siesta!
Another thing is to just get in a habit of sleeping at a regular time. If you find yourself not sleeping at night, stay up until the next evening, by which time you should be nice and tired. Maintain your correct sleeping time by never breaking habit, and if necessary, do a lot of physical work or exercise in the afternoon, which will help fatigue your muscles.

Big meals before bedtime are a no-no unless your plan on gaining weight.
What works for many is:
1. Drink milk before bedtime as it makes you sleepy.
2. Turn off the computer.

WHO considers insomnia as one of the 10 most chronic diseases of the 21 st century. Infact its so chronic because its stress related and as such has no cure, coz its so subjective.

Here is what I know
1. drinking water before sleep make you wake up during the night and keep you from the deep sleep.one or two hr before the sleep would be prefered.
2. do not excerse at night. It makes you tired(true) but also make your blood work for the reaparing muscle, not cleaning your memory.
3. sex in general gives you good and deep sleep. for female and male when reached mental AND physical orgasm mainly. (maybe conflict with number 2 but whatever..)
here is what I do (maybe not based on medical fact)
1. drink a sip of warm sake or sometimes small amount of milk with drops of red wine in it.
2. take melatonin(1-2mg, 3mg max.).
good luck.

Reading a magazine in bed can help too. Casual reading helps you to relax and put you in a low mental activity state. It also fatigues your eyes, which though probably bad for your eyes, will make your eyelids drop like lead weights.

I`ve never been a great sleeper but a few months back I was having real problems. I was suffering from hypnogogic hallucinations(thats what the doctor said anyway).
Basically that means I was half-waking up just before I was asleep, and my mind could`nt be sure if I was dreaming, or in reality. A couple of times I woke up, afraid, as I felt something unearthly was in the room. One time I woke up as I “thought” I heard someone(or thing) screaming and bashing at my door one time.
Scary sh1t!
Now I just make sure I don`t play too much BF1942, and no computer after 11
