Hey

I was wondering if anyone could help me by suggesting any software which will allow me to download videos which are streamed online, whether its from free sites like http://www.launch.com or from pay sites like http://www.rollingstone.com.
I was told about this software:

I did not want to pay for software unless i know its going to work, so i thought i would try out the following software:

Which did not work when i entered the link to the video, it wouldnt record.

Any help would be appreciated.

i think it wouldn’t record if the file is has password protected. For example, if you need to log-in to the site first before play those media.
I have been watching http://www.cinemanow.com 99c for a whille. I was thinking to record and store in my computer ,too. I tried many software, i didnt work. All i can think right now record it manually.connect video out and plug it to video recorder or something.

Check out camtasia at http://www.techsmith.com.  We use this program quite a bit and it is quite good at what it does.  Basically, it can make a movie (avi) of whatever is on your screen.  I usually use it to produce training videos, but it will capture anything that’s being streamed as well.  You have the ability to tweak the FPS and bitrate sample to adjust for quality vs. size.  It almost has too many options, which can get a bit frustrating; but once you play with it for awhile, it can work very well.

I just tried the program
this is a very cool forgram for make training video.
now i can capture my screen and send me my friends to show how to solve whatever their problems. The program can output AVI wma SWF and other format. it would be able to record a sound as well. I liked it.

One comment is that, it wouldn’t record neither mpeg nor video into the file that made. it just a black blank screen where the video located. same like you cannot capture movie shot from a printscreen button.

I don’t know if this is a bug in the program or what, but i’ve experienced the same problem. 

Right click on your desktop and go properties.
Click Settings/Advanced.
Click on the Troubleshoot tab and then turn off Hardware Acceleration.  After you do this, it should work fine.

Try it and let me know how it goes.  I’m a big fan of Camtasia.

my online bud at   Steven uses Camtasia for his great tutorials on PremierPro. But he even mentions the frame rate is not so good for display of something like Premier’s internal video monitor. Still, the files (in WMF) seem reasonably sized and kinda smooth. Anyone have any samples of streaming video captured using this tool?

I encoded SWF file with camtasia studio 2.0
@a color 16 of bit (original desktop is 32) and
Frame rate set automatic.
you cann crank up frame rate up to 20.
this file’s size is 3625 kb.

i set my desktop resolution at 1280x1024. i could capture the whole screen at once, but the file will be hugggeeeeee. so i set just to capture the defined region ,and it would automatically follow your mouse as you move your cursor around.

I think some of you are missing exactly what this person wants. He wants to capture streaming audio and video…not capture his desktop. I know this program can sort of do it…but it’s not direct. 

I’m not sure of free stuff but Download Studio by Conceiva does it pretty well.

Also Net Transport by Xi-Soft is pretty good at downloading streaming media.

Neither are free but they work pretty well and may be worth checking out if you regularly want to do this.

what about converting protected asf media to other format? is it possible?

hi all, I downloaded Camtasia studio to do one thing: record a voiceover ontop of an AVI file (while previewing the video) and i get the same problem that stalled Audition 1.5 in this task: choppy recording not synced with video. I never got that fixed in Audition (and complained bitterly all over the web( and now that Camtasia does the same thing - I am beginning to think its the TR. Maybe the processor just can’t do it!  I have no problems recording a narration, say in Audition or whatever and assembling in Premier, but whenever I try a tool that shows a video preview at the same time as audio recording, it chokes! Could soundmax be the culprit?  Is directX taking up too much processor? 

If anyone can help, please hurry before I go get another computer! thanks,

ps. Camtasia seems to be pretty good (despite the above problem) but what I really liked was the Snagit download.  wow, what a capture tool!
