I have been reading various posts on it but cannot decide if its a good thing to upgrade to sp2 on my TR3AP2. Can anyone give an opinion if its worth the effort or am I just setting myself up for hardware problems?

Hardware problems…most likely no.

Software problems, maybe. Most programs run SP2 fine…some don’t. Obviously Microsoft stuff works fine. If you use any major programs, I would check their websites to see if there is an SP2 update or question regarding compatability. I know I use something that doesn’t yet work with SP2 so none of my systems have been upgraded yet.

defintely you should update to SP2. I do not think it would mess up any of the Viao functions or the Sony softwares.

I upgraded my TR to SP2 straight out of the box.  If you’ve just recently got one, this is the best time to do it as there are the least amount of conflicts when you first load up.  Also, if it does give you problems, you can always use the restore disks to get you back to the original image without losing any configurations or installed programs.

There is a problem program not listed on Microsoft’s site called CDAnywhere.  It allows you to store CD image on your hard drive and access them as if the CD were actually available.

It “works” with XP2 but the data can’t actually be acessed by any programs through it. You can view the contents of the virtual CD and even copy files from it but it doesn’t work right with an application. In my case it was Street Atlas 2004.

I had to switch over to VirtualCD 6.

When I tried upgrading to SP2 I (back when it first came out months ago)  got the following message (see attachment).  I checked out the Microsoft article it refers to, and I wasn’t able to figure out how to get it working.  Maybe I was just too lazy in trying to figure it out, but has anyone else gotten this error message before?

sp2’s new wifi management just nuked all my wifi connections. and i have no idea why. my apt’s wifi AP/network remained exactly the same. but the TR3A’s wifi nic won’t see it at all :(

After upgrading toi SP2,  I decided to merge C: and D: so I did a restore with the CDs. Worked great and restored my system to SP1, single C: drive.

Thats when I noticed this annoying little drive access was gone that started after I upgraded to SP2.  After doing the SP2 thing, every few seconds my drive light would flash and I’d hear the heads click. I figured it was normal and I hadn’t noticed it before. Now that I downgraded to SP1, I still see the occasional drive access but the click is barely audible.

So I am sticking with SP1.
