I promised myself that I would not use my TR1MP for games - I have other machines for that…so what was the first thing I did? Install loads of games!!
I’m a bit of a graphics whore, so I tend to like my frames per sec up in at least the 30’s, and whilst I love 3d games, I tend to only play them rarely on laptops regardless of how they perform.
I have plenty to try, so the following is just the beginning:
GTA Vice City - 800x600/16 bit - excellent performance - just shows how good the engine is…I lose a few fps during rain as some have already noticed, but at this resolution it doesn’t affect gameplay at all.
Syberia
Syberia 2
Rise of Nations - Borderline. Playable at around 18-25 fps at 1024x768. If you up the resolution to 1280x768 its still mainly OK, but it feels like you’re playing through glue..
Age of Wonders - Shadow Magic
American McGee’s Alice
Red Alert 2
Starship Titanic
Stronghold Crusader
Space Colony
Civ 3
Diablo 2
Galactic Civilizations
Uplink
Industry Giant 2
Desperados
Commandos2
Thief 2
System shock 2
Deus Ex
Half Life
Baldurs Gate 2
Star Wars Galactic Batlegrounds
Journey to the Centre of the Earth
Empire Earth
Gothic
Conquest Frontier Wars
Fallout series
Emperor:Battle for Dune
Codename Outbreak
Clive Barker’s Undying
All the above work flawlessly.
I know most of these are quite old and dont tax the system too much. I’ll post some more recent ones next week, though as I said, I don’t find laptops particularly great for playing 3d games - they get hot, keyboards take a lot of pounding, processors overheat etc…Plus I have found many of the latest games to be graphically splendid, but the gameplay is the same old same old..(Far Cry so far excepted)
What is good to know is that many of my favourite games, some of which are quite old, work fantastically on the TR series.
Hope that helps, more later.
