Has anybody purchased this battery on e-bay, and if so, does it work as it should?

I would not recommend buying non-OEM batteries. Sony also warned buyers of such batteries on their support webpage.

I would agree.  In the past I have purchased so called direct replacement batteries and they have been very disappointing. Buy the real thing then you have warranty support etc

I was just looking for an alternate battery.  The sony branded batteries are far too cost prohibitive for me to justify.  300-350 bux is a bit much.  Is there an alternate source that is reliable out there other than sonystyle?

Please do come back and let us know what you think of this purchase.  I routinely buy off-brand batteries,chargers and other things from e-bay for my cell phone but in the worst case; i blow up my phone and have a good excuse to buy a new one.  I’ll take that kind of chance on a 150$ item.  Not a 1500 dollar one. 

Thanx for being a guinea pig   ...actually, while you’re at it, can you buy the off-brand AC adapter and let me know how that goes as well…

even the oem brand has the potential to explode..the difference is you are still covered under warranty if it does blow up..like jaa668 stated..you should go with the oem brand if you’re still under warranty.

Fire is another real possibility with a 3rd party bat. A lappy bat stores a lot more energy than a cell phone bat. Li ion batteries are a tricky business. Quality is everything. I vote for the outrageously priced Sony, with or without warrenty.

I am ‘guest’. So has anyone *actually* blown up their laptop with one of these batteries? Sony may fear monger to drive you to their battery but I don’t think altruism is at the bottom of their intent. Like all corps, bottom line is the driver.  These batteries are likely oem’d somewhere and branded. Sony is not in the business of making batteries.  I have a lot of experience with Liths and I have only seen them go bad when they have been abused. At worst I don’t expect it to live up to its rated life but then again neither do the genuine ones.
