512mb and 1gb.

i think that apple will do pretty well with these. hopefully, they’ll work on improving the other versions of the ipod, i.e. more GB on the mini, and increased storage on the regular (80GB).

personally, i think that there will be current ipod or ipod mini owners that purchase the shuffle than first time ipod-ers that choose the shuffle over other flash based mp3 players (e.g. rio).

It’s too bad there’s no LCD. Personally, I do not fancy this iPod Shuffle that much but I am most curious to know as to how its amp will sound.

one of the reasons why apple is able to low-ball the other flash drive mp3 manufacturers is the fact that the shuffle has no LCD. with no LCD, apple is strategically calling it the ipod shuffle - claiming that with that amount of storage space, you should listen to it randomly.

i think apple would do much better if 1) they had an LCD on their ipod (just has to be simple one) and 2) they had shortened it a bit. it just seems to be too long to me.

even though i own a flash-based mp3 player AND have the random setting on, i still value the LCD screen because 1) it tells me what’s playing, 2) it has a battery indicator, 3) i can see certain adjustments that i’m able to do, like modify the EQ.

again, i think the ipod shuffle is a great complement to ipod owners who want something smaller, but i don’t think it makes too much sense for non-ipod owners. the only great thing going for apple is that it is affordable for the amount of storage space, especially when compared to other flash-drive based mp3 players currently out there.

Seems great for music. Unfortunately, I use my iPod mini 90% of the time for language courses. So i guess I need the screen. I need to see which lesson I will be starting, how far into it… So I guess it ruels it out if anyone’s into audio books or similar stuff. Seems great for music, however.

if you’re a jogger on the way out, the shuffle would suite your needs.  grab cheap durable player, drag, drop, run.  if mugged, you’re only down 100 instead of 300 so dollars.  if you have time to use the lcd, you’d just use your ipod.  besides, there’re already tons of lcd mp3 players.

I have a bang and olufsen Beosound 2 which has no lcd screen and I have never found it to be a problem, I just scroll through the songs. Its very intuitive.
