Has anyone successfully transferred their XP Home Key to another computer?

XP Home came with my TR3A.  I bought XP Pro to put on it so I have an XP Home key that is not in use.  I want to install XP Home on my daughter’s computer and use the key from my TR3A.

Is this possible?  Do I have to call Microsoft to transfer it?

You would have to call. Not sure if they will change it because the Home is an OEM install on a Sony.

They certainly should let you do this. You have two vald licenses and two computers. But how are you going to actually install XP Home? I donlt see how you could install from a Sony backup. Do you have another CD-ROM? Not all CD-ROMs accept all codes.

Why not try to install it as a dual-boot. That way, if anything goes wrong, you still have the original OS on your daughter’s computer.

Some companies provide you with a separate copy of windows xp like Dell did for my desktop. However, since your’s is Sony, I doubt they would have provided you with one. Secondly, as Erik put it, it’s OEM so it’s meant to be installed on just that TR laptop (or may be another sony machine too?  :?), but even if you did have a XP home retail disc, it’s highly unlikely that MS will give you a retail serial # for that OEM one.

Thanks to all those who replied.  I have a copy of XP Home from an install I did for someone else.  I was able to install my Mom’s Dell from scratch using this CD and the Dell OEM key so I guess I will just try it and see what happens.

I was hoping that maybe someone had experience with this.  I will let you all know what happens.
