Okay, I was looking around for something today for my new TR3A, and I didn’t want to get some big bookbag, but rather something, that COULD fit in a book bag if needed, but it wasn’t all for that.  I just wanted something sleek, that could hold my personals (wallet) phone - bluetooth headset - PDA - charger if needed - and a mouse and other odds and ends (camera, etc.,) 

So I thought I may be at a loss, until I was remembered, someone mention on here, that DVD player cases have worked before, so I thought, lets take a looky.

So I found this.

At first, I was a little disappointed, because it wasn’t “supersleek” basically a sleeve with a handle.  Then I realized, I will want a little bit more than that, but not the full entourage.  So, I decided to test it out.  Luckly, when I did open it up, it was filled with stuffers to make it look bigger.  I quickly removed it, and set my vaio in it.  Perfect fit, I was still a little skeptical, but I bought it never the less.

As you can see, it is pretty thick, don’t let it fool ya, it will probably mat down another inch after some usage due to being “stuffed” and brand new stiffy feel.  Overall, the width and heigth was nice. 

So, I decided to give it a try

So here is a picture of the back pocket which can easily fit my a/c adapter, as well as a mouse and other odds and ends.  So you might think, you have a racist southern white pda, and a black mouse, and you’d never want to leave those two together. 

Low and behold.

The little white PDA is now happy by him self, and was also joined by his white friend the Sony T68 phone, and they were just fine talking about that blacky in the back pocket getting the benefits and all.

And of course, I decided to enclose a picture of the nice!!! snug fit the laptop has, no space on any sides, nice velcro strap to give it EXTRA security which is a plus.

So, here is a “life-size” picture of the case next to a keyboard, and my monitors.  Hopefully this gives you good perspective of the case sizing. 

And if you are curious, I already had two people ask, what the hell was I carrying in there, and didn’t believe me when I said a computer until I pulled it out.  So it got the show aspect of it.

There is handle for hand carrying of course, this is sewed deep in, not like the bodyglove with the cheap rubber, I can honestly say I feel that this is a nice TIGHT stiching job.  Quality material through out, nice soft material for the laptop area and the other innards. 

Oh yea, one of the better, parts, its leather with except for the areas where movement/stiching is needed the most.  So it has elegance, and toughness. 

I know that the leather is of good enough quality to perhaps stitch a personal design into.  I’m going to take and have a custom vaio logo put on.  Why pay $200 for a decent leather stitch job when you can have a nice Vietenese lady down there street do it for 20-30 bucks bring your own material, etc.,  I will try to leave progress on my case MOD for you guys.

All that glitters isn’t gold. I have a bunch of perfectly legal XP discs that just have the latest (at the time) service pack slipstreamed onto it.

I certainly have copies of my XP discs. The originals go in a safe deposit box with my other original software discs and the copies stay on site for re-installs, etc.

Forget the CD, what would happen if you dropped the case with the TR in ? I think it would be damaged..

I dunno, the case is honestly well padded, granted it isn’t “hard” it is pretty padded up on all sides.

Looks economical enough.  Not liking the velcro hold-down strap though.  Maybe my crappy old Compaq could handle it, but I wouldn’t want any velcro next to the vaio logo of a sony notebook!  Plus with the way the flap opens, it could be easy to absentmindedly run the computer in the case, without ventilation.

The unusual vertical orientation of the bag makes it look less like a laptop bag and more like a casual bookbag (with the side effect of not shouting “steal me!”)

i’m glad you like the bag. personally, i wouldn’t use it, but i can see how it can be an economical solution for many people, especially students.

Well. considering I just got medically discharged from the USAF and I am now a disabled vet, I didn’t want to spend lots of mulla on a bag.

Once I get my life back up and going, I just might have too, but for now, I must pinch the pennies (I say this after buying the lappy for 1k, lol)

But this laptop is going to be essential to my education as I am very apt to do assignments at cafes and other wifi hotspots as I can’t concentrate at home very well.  Also keeps me from doing alot of gaming since its the a “game” machine

I think the bag provides plenty of protection…I don’t throw my notebooks around, I carry them and set them down lightly…

My leather cases are thin…I bring my laptop everyday to school and almost everywhere else I go…I sold my TR and it was in mint condition, no scratches, no cracks…and the case provided no protection.

Just treat your notebook with care and you should not have any problems.

Seems like a good fit.

I also have a Case Logic DVD bag for my TR3AP1.  It’s neoprene, not as big, a little snug, but does no harm to my TR.  Only able to fit the TR and some CD/DVDs in the side pocket.  It nicely matches my logitech neoprene mouse case/bag.

i also have this case (gf got it as part of my bday gift)...

it’s beyond snug as zippering it up takes a lot of effort. and i’ve had it for 3 months now it still hasn’t expanded (well duh, it’s neoprene). so i usually carry it inside my messenger bag/ briefcase

I’ve got this . It is bigger than the bag you 2 guys have and hence accomodates the TR much more easily. The adapter can also go in but only on the side of the laptop (and not on top) which makes the bag a bit fat.

I bought it for $18.68 (it’s nearly doubled now :shock: ). I paid 6 more bucks for shipping but it was most likely eligible for free shipping on orders above 25.

I used to have a DVD case for my TR years ago (a Targus something or other) about that size, but I ended up with my Waterfeild because I didn’t like the idea of having such a small laptop (the reason I got the thing in the first place) with such a bulky case.

gr00vy’s been having problems with his ISP. Apparently there’s a problem where the date on the machine keeps getting reset incorrectly. If it happened this week, PM him and let him know the time(s) it happened.
