I’m trying to get the latest version of AOL Instant Messenger (AIM 5.9) to work with the built-in webcam on my TR laptop.  Right now the video option is grayed out.

I did a search and I found posts that said the camera worked great with Yahoo and MSN messenger but I couldn’t find anything that suggested it worked with AIM.

Has anyone been able to get the builti-in webcam to work with AIM?  If so, how?

I’ve been caming on AIM 5.9 with no problems…...very smooth too ( could be my t3 connections hehe )

you can try messing around with the video option in AIM preferences to see if it will help, otherwise it should be fine. If it still doesn’t work, try reinstalling a new fresh copy, meaning redownload it!

I tried reinstalling but when I go to chat the video option is greyed out.  Not sure what else I should be doing….

Hmmm, I’m beginning to wonder if I unstilled something that has resulted in AIM not “seeing” my camera.  I tried installed Trillian, but it also didn’t allow the video chat option to work.

If I hit the capture button on my TR, the Network Smart Capture program loads up and works fine - so the camera is definitely functioning - it’s just not being detected by my IM software for some reason….

did you already try with msn messenger? Did it work?
Maybe running smart capture and another software that needs the webcam at the same time creates conflicts…

I haven’t tried MSN Messenger - I think I took it off my machine some time back.

I tested the webcam with Network Smart Capture but I haven’t been running along with AIM all the time - so I don’t think these two are conflicting.
