I suspect a hitachi on board but I am not sure…

error reads: “Operating system not found”
and in BIOS under primary IDE controller says “NONE” which should read something like 40000 MB over there.

Any ideas / suggestions?

I ve taken the HD out carefouly move it a little bit (like if this could help me in anyway..) but I did not unmount it from the integraded controller under the black protective plastic.

Is there any way that sony will realize it has been opened? Still under warranty but need it working ASAP can not afford the time not to mention the data loss!

yo bro, hate to be the bearer of bad news but it sounds dead. same thing happened to me last year, search on my name and harddrive this forum. it died on mt. everest after riding in the saddle bag of a royal enfield for over 1500 kms. i guess it did pretty good considering.  hope u had a backup!

Hard drives seem to be the most trouble-prone part of our TRs. Has anyone done a survey of any kind as to the rate of failure of different brands and sizes? Just from memory, it seems that Hitachi 40GB drives seem to be failing relatively often. The DeathStar curse lives on…

the thing is dead.. allright. what should I do?
1. Send it back to SONY USA with courier
2. Get a new MK4004GAH and make the replacement my self?

ALso, is there anyway taht I could see with any kind of program in this @#$%#^$%^ hard disk?

I have ERD commander and win ternals utlities but nothing can be found.
