OK so after playing Ridge Racers for over 3 hours, my battery indicator said 27% full :shock:

And with regard to the NetMD remote - it WON’T work - the sockets are physically different…

Yes Ridge Racers is bloody excellent but I can’t figure something out.

In the World Tours section there are 3 options (excluding the info & exit) What is the one with the Watch & the Treasure Chest?

I’m working throught the Expert levels at the moment.

Is the golf game any good? Is it easy to understand the Japanese menus?

Hey psikey - The option with the watch is a cool feature - it sets up a custom tour based on how much time you have available - so if you only have 30mins then select 30 min and you get a tour that lasts half an hour - cool innit?

The treasure chest will show items when you unlock them by progressing in world tour, such as videos and other stuff.

Golf is great, it’s in Japanese, but that adds to the fun, and it’s fully playable, especialy with the menu translations that are available on http://www.gamefaqs.com

yes - it can…................BUT

I quite like the remote - its small and functional and you can wake the PSP up with it to play music without using the power switch on the unit, or taking it out ouf it’s soft cover sleeve.

can’t be all bad can it?

AND….it’s got a natty clip to attach it to your shirt !! hehehe

Has anyone tried a Clie remote? To me (from memory) it looks similar.

(this isn’t exactly TR related, but it’s nice to know we all have similar interests!)

My PSP arrives in a couple of days and I’m already thinking about customizing the heck out of it. I thought I’d prepare some movies in advance to test the multimedia limits of the machine. (I’m psyched that it has (native) user-friendly audio and video support.)  I’ve just finished encoding The Matrix (HQ) to the PSP screen dimensions.

I’ve encoded 2 versions of the movie to try One is the full wide-screen version (has black bars on the top and bottom because w/h ratio is greater then the PSP screen ratio). The other is cropped on the sides slightly so that it plays full screen (400x272) - believe it or not, it’s actually pretty watchable.

My next step is to save as MP4 video (using Sorenson Squeeze to do this). Anyone doing the same? I’d be interested to hear detailed specs. (movie length, fps, file size, video/audio compression rates, sound quality etc..)

Other questions in general to any PSP owners. Are you able to customize the background of the PSP - maybe with an image? If you have used the PSP for other than gaming how was the power consumption and what were you listening/viewing/watching with it? If you are viewing video larger (or smaller) then the screen how is it played back. Is it resized or cropped?

The PSP can only currently play mp4 movies at 320x240 and most converters don’t work as the PSP uses an audio codec thats a bit different I think.

I have used the Japanese freeware 3GP-Converter to convert full movies at 768 & 1500kbps and at 1500kbps 128kbps audio the movies are near DVD quality but usualy have to use 768kbps or the QB4 setting to fit a movie onto a 512MB DUO (waiting for the 1GB DUO’s to come down in price before I buy one).

You can convert straight from .vob files if the DVD is not encrypted. I usually use DVDShrink to convert the DVD to one un-encrypted .vob file on my hard drive then just drop the .vob file onto the 3GP converter window & leave it to run. It even created the thumbnail file that shows in the PSP interface. Apparently the quality is much better than the Sony PSP software sony are selling in Japan!

Just go my PSP, I am way impressed. It is such a leap on GBA, nothing compares to it (the only bad point IMO is the analogue stick, poor placement, moving both controls on the LHS up a bit higher would have made gameplay more comfortable). Not so happy with Ridge Racer though, does anybody know if you can change the driving style to make it more realistic, powersliding around 3 corners not having to steer is not much of a challenge.

Maybe somebdy might have some english instructions for the game. Has anybody tried Metal Gear Acid or Vampire Chronicles? Are they playable and easy to understand in Japanese…..?

I just thoght that there maybe a harder setting somewhere in that Japanese writting that would improve the experience. Surely this must be true.

if you play the world tour games - the tours get harder as you go on and give you additional cars / tracks etc - but i assume you’ve started to do that. :?:
