I’m assuming using the Sony recovery CD/DVDs will install everything including all programs as if I had just taken it out of the box. If that is correct, and I want to format my TR5 and re-install without installing everything, do I need to buy a new copy of WinXP Pro or can I some how extract just the Windows XP Pro off the recovery CD/DVD? Since I’ve heard you can extract the drivers and the necessary sony applications alone.
Oh and also if you kill the sony partitions, and say you wanted to go back to the original factory setup later on, will the recovery CD/DVD put those partitions back? Like put back the hidden partition where the recovery files used to be?
I dont think it would be possible to install just windows xp pro off the recovery discs so you’ll need to buy a separate copy of windows xp. I also doubt the recovery cd will restore the partition
I’m sure that would be ok, but the big question is will the serial # be accepted by the windows xp which you install with? Like in my case I tried something similar i.e. got the windows xp off my university website and tried the serial # at the back of my TR but it rejected it. There are all these different versions of windows XP like OEM, Retail, etc etc so you need to have the correct windows xp for the serial # behind the TR to work.

No, Home and Pro are not considered the same product and the serial won’t work.
