rabbitt- is that a PowerBook G4 I see over in the corner? Very nice machine, I forgot to throw mine in the setup pic. That’s a snazzy looking external keyboard you have too, would you mind sharing the brand/price? The Microsoft one I use now is a bit of a clunker, and I’d be willing to put up with a cord for a low-profile keyboard.
gr00vy- your setup is a blue LED heaven, I definitely dig the look. A SE Z600 too, is it leaps and bounds above your old T68i? Also, how does the PowerMate work with a PC, I’ve only used one with a Mac.

Yeah, I’ve been trying to keep it consistent…although you should have saw it during Christmas time as I found these USB cables that light up and bought red and green ones and had them plugged in and hanging off stuff. Very lame…but it was festive!
The SE Z600 is leaps and bounds above my T86i. Every facet has been improved. First of all, the flip phone open makes for an easier to hold phone. Also, the flip design is much better as I no longer have to worry about locking the keys (and not accidentally calling the first and last people on my list). The screen is obviously better in terms of resolution, clarity, saturation and brightness. The Bluetooth implementation is seemingly better. Connected to my Jabra Freespeak, the sound quality is very clear which was not always the case with my T68i. Of course, the speed of the Z600 is a lot better as well. Menus are much more responsive which one one issue I had with the T68i.
The Powermate works very well with the PC. Out of the box, it’s programmed to work with a variety of different programs and the base OS itself. You can easily program the device to act differently in different applications which is nice. So, it can scroll in IE or be used to move forwards and backwards on a Premiere timeline. It also has some cool eyecandy appeal. You can set the blue glow to represent the volume level of your PC or you can choose for it to soothingly pulse whenever it’s not in use. It’s definitely a fun thing to have…and can be useful if you want it to be.
sillyrabbitt- thanks for the link to the keyboard, the self-illumination is a definite plus! I find myself ogling the light-up keyboards on the new PowerBooks, but this will help a lot during late-night computing sessions.
gr00vyone- thanks for the feedback on the Z600 and PowerMate, my sister needs a new phone, so I might give her the T616 and get a Z600 for myself. Can you point out a good place that sells the Z600 unlocked, or did you do it yourself? Thanks!
I got my phone off ebay and it was unlocked. The vendor I got it from has a website you can order it from although you should look for their ebay auctions since you can save up to $30 or more if you’re lucky.
Thanks for the tip, I’ll give eBay a look. I also saw expansys had Z600s for $430, though that’s a bit steep even for me.
As a side note, I forgot to post the picture of my desk drawer with a few more tech goodies inside:

I’ve been using Klear Screen for several years, and have been very pleased with the results on many laptops. I’ve found that 3M makes a really good cleaning cloth that works really well with the Klear Screen solution. It’s the 3M CD&DVD; Cleaning Cloth, and it’s only a couple of dollars at Best Buy or Target.
Don’t worry at first when you spray the solution on, it will look like it’s making the screen streaky and greasy. Just wipe the screen down with the solution, then spray it again and wipe the solution off again. I usually apply the solution twice and after the second application I buff the screen in a circular pattern with the cleaning cloth. If you keep buffing the screen will eventually clear up and get nice and shiny again. Dust isn’t as attracted to the screen after application, though the anti-static effect only last about 3 weeks.
OK, this is weird. last time we looked at Groovy’s setup he had an apple display and keyboard. I looked into getting one but didn’t have the cash. Then a cool Sgi LCD widescreen monitor came up at a local auction but the bidding went to $600 and took me out. NOw the exact monitor pops up on Groovy’s desk!?
Where you here in OZ???
Haha…no. I’ve had the SGI for years now. The Apple monitor i had in that review was borrowed. The SGI is still one of the best monitors around considering it’s age.
I am looking at the new Apple monitors but will have to wait in light of this new Type S I just got and all of the new accessories I plan to get.
