Yes it does. I’ve already run a 5GHz card in mine for over a year. Also know that in Japan, 802.11a was a feature on some of the earliest models. So, don’t worry…you’ll be able to use it just fine.
Also, some of the earliest combo GSM/WiFi VOIP phones coming out support WiFi on 11a only, so if you’re lookiing to turn your TR into a travelling communications station via net access, it could work.
Lastly, with how much I travel and my need for net access, the more protocols my little TR can support, the happier I am.

802.11a is the same speed as 802.11g, but a uses the 5 GHz band while g uses the 2.4 GHz band. 2.4 GHz tends to be rather crowded with things like microwave ovens and cordless phones operating at the same frequencies and causing interference. g is by far the more popular than a in the US, mainly due to its compatability with 802.11b.
