I am looking at upgrading the following on my UK TR1MP:

1.  Hard drive
2.  Memory
3.  Wireless Upgrade - From 11Mbs To 54Mbs (without using an external PC-Card type)

Is any of this possible?

If so, are there any details about all this?

Yes all of those components can be upgraded.

Here is the tutorial for upgrading the WiFi:

Though i would wait for this upgrade, becuase the Intel 2915ABG card will be coming out soon.  It has better better features and newer tech than the NEGRETI listed in the upgrade tutorial.

Memory is upgradable to 2 GB if you are willing to spend the money and need it.  Otherwise 1 GB should be more than enough memory for the average user.  I personally have 512 MB and have only ever crossed over the that when i was doing some photo editing.  Here is a site that sells memory for the TR and you can look around if the prices are not to your liking.

As for the HDD.  The only option right now is the MK4004GAH - 40GB.  As the newer MK6006GAH - 60GB is not open to the consumer market at this point.  Also it looks like in the third or forth quarter of next year TOSHIBA will be retailing their new MK8008GAH - 80GB drive.  Here is a site with the MK4004GAH HDD:

Also BLUETOOTH can be added if it is needed.  The tutorial for this is here:

2.  No, unfortunately.  The TR series accepts very low-profile 1.8” notebook drives, of which, 40Gb is the largest consumer-available capacity right now.

How many slots will be free on my UK TR1MP for me to add memory?

Or will I have to take out the existing memory and install a bigger one?

You can have a look easily enough but I had one free slot. The other had 256mb in it. I added 512 to give me 768 and it has really improved the experience.

You cannot use a 2.5” hard disc in the TR.

The upgrade of wireless is very easy if you don’t mind opening your TR.

If you are going to upgrade the wireless card, I would recommend that you wait until the Intel 2915ABG comes.  It will have better features, newer tech, and overall should be a better WiFi card than the Netegriti 802.11a/b/g.

Is the Intel 2915AB not yet available, even in the US?  I ask because I found this:

Found that earlier today also.

I started a thread on it earlier today.  Hopefully someone will be able to confirm that the specs are right.  As I have very limited experience in this area of upgrading.  Also, I don’t know if the software and drivers come with the card or not.
