I’m a newbie in Playstation  , well lately I’m planning to buy a Playstation 2 Slimline version. I live in the UK, but I’m planning to get it from Hong Kong since my friend is going there soon, as it has been out of stock everywhere in the UK and also I thought it could save me up some £££ from getting in from ebay.co.uk 8) . My worries are: :?:
1. Is the Hong Kong version of PS2 compatible with the games sold in the UK? Is there any regional coding on the PS2 games?
2. Can I play UK’s DVD in the Hong Kong PS2 machine? Any regional restriction on DVD playback in PS2?
3. Is the Hong Kong PS2 comes in the UK format (i.e. PAL) or NTSC?
Any helps from you guys are very much appreciated! Many thanks indeed! :D
Yeah, since it is nothing new but just a slim version, and I’m surprised to see the extremely high demand in UK too. Sony just recently annouced a statement that it might not have any new stock coming in the UK market until sometime in January 2005! People are selling it in the ebay.co.uk as high as £200! Considering the retail price here is only around £99, it is just a rip off!
[quote author=“VAIOfreak”]Erik,
Which version of PS2 are you talking about that is collecting dust? PS2 - the slim version is quite in demand in the US as well.
Stan
Really? In MI they are litterally collecting dust…every store I go to has plenty in stock. The local Gamestop sold 2 since they came out. Maybe in more civilized areas they are actually selling.

1) No such restrictions on game DVDs. You should be able to play most of the games.
2) PS2 is a multi region DVD player unless they have made some changes in the Slim version.
3) HK also uses PAL.
[quote author=“tifosiv122”]Just did a quick ebay check, there are thousands of Slims for sale…with no bites…I saw some as low as $190 buy it now…
I think too many people bought these expecting to make a ton of money, and its just not going to happen…
Erik
Thanks Erik, but those are in US version with NTSC format where I use PAL format. Anyway, it’s good to see though that the US version comes in white box, as oppose to the UK version which is in UGLY yellow box.
I think the one’s that had no bites were shipping only to the continental US or Canada. The auctions I saw hovered from about $150-190, with bids 10+, as long as they shipped outside of the continental US. Makes me wonder if I could get a piece of the action…

After tax, does it really pay? $150 + tax + ebay fees + paypal fees? Even if you inflate the shipping charge…is it worth all the trouble for a possible $20?

You’re right, I didn’t realise the profit margin would be so…well, marginal.
And that $20 still isn’t even guaranteed, considering how many 1000s are on sale simultaneously.

Same out here… they are in demand but not extremely every place I go to has several. EB Games, Gamecrazy, Best Buy, Circuit City. My friend has one and while I think they are much nicer… why bother?
As I mentioned previously, I had to pay £155 for my slimline (instead of shop price of £104.99) but managed to sell my faulty one for £31 profit so not too bad ie £124.

Where did you get yours then? Do you know anywhere else have it in stock now, either online store or shop? (other than ebay)
