Hello guys, I want to buy a new handheld. I´ve had the Palm V, Palm IIIc and the Palm Zire 71. All of them had Palm OS.
I was once one of the biggest Palm OS defensors. I was sure Palm OS would be the market leader forever.
Howerver, lately I have begun to realize things are changing. Pocket PCs are now ahead Palms.
What do you think? Which handheld do you sugest? I am looking for something powerful.
Thanx.

Well, so it’s time for you to check out the Pocket PCs Yes, you’re right, you really should try it out. It’s actually a very pleasing experience.
Conerning the brand and model of the device… HP iPaq. You really can do nothing wrong with an iPaq.

And YES, you’re lucky, there now is! Take a look at the HP iPaq hx4700 . There are probably other models as well, maybe with even more features, but this is the one I know. The display is actually awesome. Well, for a handheld, nothing beats our TR display
Then again, iPaqs are known for their really, really good display. You will be able to see it in full darkness or in full direct sunlight.

Oh, right, I forgot the touchpad The touchpad is another think I find very exciting. It has two modes: joystick-mode (which makes it substitute the usual joystick) and touchpad mode (which then works like a mouse).
Perhaps you have the possibility to try the iPaq before you buy it.
Tell us how you like it

I had chance to try the H6315 .. pretty amazing, the screen is not as good as the UX50, but still a good mobile pc:) Of course the UX50 was palm, but pretty much the software is the same.
I wish they had the UX50 with a GSM in it….. I bought 3 times and sold it three times ... :( Couldn’t justify it sitting in the box…
The h6315 is quadband, had 802.11b, bluetooth and is a worldphone.
You can get it fro around 450USD.

Comparing the QTEK S100 / I-MAte JAM with the iPaq H6315 the only difference I could see is that the I-Mate has a 1.2Mp camera and the iPaq has a VGA camera. And the I-Mate looks smaller.
However H6315 is made by HP and I-mate is made by QTEK. BTW what tha hell is QTEK?
P.S. 400 quid for a QTEK smartphone? Sounds a little steep…

[quote author=“Anonymous”]the i-mate feels and looks like crap when you hold it. It is same size, although the H6315 feels more square… I decided to keep it simple a phone is a phone no more pda’s
I know what you mean… I sold my last PDA and decided that I had no use for a PDA… Well, I miss it though. But I just can´t afford having so much gadgets on me daily. I was hopping the merging between phones and PDA was finished…
I think I better wait some more.

The iMate is actually designed and manufactured by a hardware company called HTC. Among other things, they manufacture the iPaq for HP.

I just got the Fujitsu Siemans Loox 720, it isn’t a phone but it makes up for that with all the extras, it’s got options for SD cards, CF type I & II, camera, Wifi, IR, BT, VGA screen and it’s smaller than the HP with the VGA screen, also it has buttons rather than the touch pad which the HP has (can’t play games very well on the HP).
It is now my new remote control for around the house, it plays movies encoded with DIVX @ a res of 640 x 480 without dropping hardly any frames, the sound is great… the only thing against it is that it is hard to pull out a CF type II microdrive because there is no release button.
