I am so excited!  I am getting another notebook.  I am sure you know what I have had prior.

Sony TR3A and a Sony T-150

Both laptops I loved.  The TR was my first Laptop and I got that back in Feb. of this year. 

What happened was I was sick of the small screen.  And I wasn’t sure if I wanted it to be as big as 13” like on the S.  And also cost was a factor.

Well, the solution for me was the Dell 700m.  It comes with a 12” widescreen and it has some type of xbirte technology that they call something else.

I am excited about this form factor.  Since Sony doesn’t offer it…I know everyone thinks it a budget machine.  But, go ahead and select one for fun on the site and put all those specs that come stock on Sony’s.

You’ll then see the price is pretty competive.  I went with this config.

I picked up just a cd burner since I don’t even burn DVD’s or CD’s it will be perfect for me.  Besides my Desktop has a mean Sony DVD burner.

I went with the 8 CEll battery…I read that the stock 4 cell would last under 2 hours… This battery is supposed to last about 5.

I also picked 512 on the Ram…Since this has worked for me in the past with my last 2 notebooks I thought it would be fine.

I am happy to be getting a faster cpu as well….Going from a 1.1GHz to a 1.6GHz I think I might fell a jump.

Well, time will only tell.  But, right now I am having a blast playing Counter-Strike Source on my Gaming Rig…Never had so much fun.

Can’t wait to take some pictures of that and post them….Its a great rig…

i got mixed feelings on the 700m…

the extra inch b/t the 700m and the S actually makes quite a difference. the keyboard on that laptop reminds me of the fujitsu P series.  cramped comma, period, etc. keys get veryvery annoying.  the TR keyboard feels much better even though the keys are smaller.  size wise, i think if you’re willing to get a 12 inch, a 13 won’t be that far fetched.  + you’ll get much better battery life in the S stock wise.  pretty nice screen but doesn’t seem it has the same angle range as the X-brite screens, though still sharp and bright.  i do enjoy the 700m’s touchpad much better.  it’s a lot smoother and the touchpad buttons are easier on the thumb after clicking for a while.  i know some folks who got the S260 for a little bit over 1K.  but if its money wise, they also have a 700m for about 750.  can’t beat dell prices.  if you can save up a couple hundred bucks more, i think screen, battery, build, and better video card is worth it.

I believe the touchpad buttons are very crappy on the 700m

The keyboard feel is way too crappy as well, but again 2G vs. 1G…

Well I am not to worried about battery life…The only time I am not plug in is when I am on my couch and I am too lazy to plug in.

My needs my change where I will need my notebook for my a new job and then and only then will I pay a premium price for a laptop.

I personally thought that 10.6” screen is too small.  I messed with every setting I could…But, All and all it came down with the screen was too small.

I am really happy that you said that the screen is nice… :drool: tweleve inches is more than I had and not the size of the S.

Which defining a sub and thin and light.  I can’t wait to get her on Monday…I am really excited…From everything I’ve seen on the Web…The review are outstanding with like one of them naming the 700m as a bestbuy.

I think for a second notebook I would have a 10.6” screen..>But for my primary I need something bigger…I just hope that this 12” wide will…

I am thinking it will because it will be better utilized real estate than the powerbook which is a 4:3. 

Well, I’ll see soon enough…I am excited about the extra performance increase…IMO both the TR and T were a little slugish for my needs…

I think if I had to buy a business computer which I could soon….Will be the S…fully decked out…Hopefully they offer the x800 in the config… :drool:

Then I’ll definitely want one…

The Memory speed is the same and the performance is roughly under 10% faster because of the CPU

The speakers are as bad as the T

They have a Bay DVD-ROM which is removable, which is good.

I personally dont like the 700m, but ... it is a cheap machine.

I don’t find the txt too small, its similar to the TR and such.

I acutally like the notebook…for the price (not what she paid, but the actual price) it’s a decent PC. I would not have gone for the extended battery, its just too big.

How big is the extra battery Erik…I hope its not bigger than my old T :oops:

With the stock battery the life span on it is less than 2 hours….

Stock battery is 1 hour and 55-57minutes on average.

Chris, imagine that, the T is a little toy comparing to the 700m, which is very very slighly smaller than the S series and almost 1lbs heavier.

Funny thing: when I offered to buy your T over Thanksgiving and after my original T died, I picked up a 700m.  The thing zooms.  I thought you were not interested in a laptop with the new business so I did not even think to offer you a trade…UGH.  I would have traded you even.  It had higher specs than the one you ordered such as the 1.8 cpu,  80GB drive, both reg and extended batteries, two ac adapters, 768 Ram, the 8xDVDRW dual layer, two year accidental damage warranty, zero shock sleeve, full DVD soft suite…Loaded.  Costs about the same as a new xp pro T150 (with my small business Dell discounts).  Sorry I never thought to offer the trade, we would have both made out.  I am now looking to sell it on ebay as I finally got a new slightly discounted T.  Anyone interested for 1800.00 (paid 2199.00 new)?  It is a screeming machine, but there is a HUGE difference to me in 4.5 lbs (extended battery) and 3 lb T150 or my old TR (IMHO).  Size is also important to me.  That is why I tried the 700m, but am sticking with the T.  I am not a gamer or photo editor, no I can live with 1.1 ghz, though 1.8 flies.  Plus, I have always had Toshibas and VAIOs, first Dell.  Impressed, but like the Sonys best of the bunch….though I would love to have an accidental damage policy on the T but not at Sony’s price.  It was only 299 on the dell with 100 rebate.  Anyways, just thought you would find it interesting or ironic.  You can still have this one for the price you are paying for 1.6 and no DVDRW.  Enjoy the new machine.  I will certainly miss the worry free lifestyle of having an 80 GB Hard drive.  I wish we could get this for the T, then life would be perfect…for now.

Chris got his reasons to go that way. Financial, Cashflow, whatever. I also offered him my 700m, so he doesnt have to worry about it, but the guy has it planned for himself. You wont get more than 1250$ at most for your 700m on fleabay. Dell is suffering a huge loss at this exact moment, because they pissed too many people with overcharging (like me), cancelling orders, misleading advertisement, etc.

I got my 700m for ~ 1000$ when the 750$ off 1499 or more was around. Will sell it for ~1000$ since I dont like it either.

The reason the 700m can’t get high $ on ebay is because in october the 700m was $750 direct from dell…they flooded the market and dropped the resale significantly.

not only.

1) lcds have over 70% return rate, because of failure and or bad pixels.

2) orders got modified, cancelled, pushed back, items mis-advertized

3) coupons got ripped off and customers overchared.

The 750$ fiasco is over. These laptops have been sold long time ago

Wow, thats crazy.  It sounds like dell has done that to a lot of its products…Hint the my monitor I own…

Dell 1700 they sell it for like $549 still on dell’s site…But, I just recently learned they had an offer by any computer and get one for a $1….

Lets just say now you can get one on ebay for about $400.

This doesn’t make my monitor or 700m any less than product becuase Dell sells there stuff too cheap…

I wish I got my hands on either deal…I do feel like I am getting a decent deal on my 700m and I am not dissappointed…

Anyway I am :drool: over there 20 inch widescreen…I am waiting for them to goof up on some deal and pick one of those up for $400.  Right now I think the lowest is around $549 and thats with rebates…
