I’m on the verge of moving, so I figure now would be a good time to start looking at furniture. The most important of course is the computer desk and I’m looking for recommendations. I love the style of Erik’s Z-Line desks , (black, modern and non-woodgrain) but I have an additional requirement. I currently have a hutch with a 30lb, 8"x21"x11” (HxWxD) speaker on the top of it and I’d like to keep it above my monitors as a center channel speaker. I’d need to keep it about 20” above the desktop. The desk would be against a wall, but NOT in a corner.
I realize it’s a rather insane setup, but I don’t watch TV Any suggestions or solutions would be appreciated. Thanks.
They make all different shapes and sizes. It has a lip and can be angled in any direction. I’ll post a pic of the bookcase and the TV stand for Z-line in a bit.
Here is the TV stand and the Bookshelf. The total collection is 4 parts, the above two mentioned, an L, and a straight desk with the three utility stand attached.
And yes, before you ask, that sub is not attached to anything yet, I need to wall-mount the TV before I can mount the speakers and amp on the wall.
Anyways… this is one of the combinations I’ve been considering… however I lean more to the wood grains so I like the Galant series desks myself…
You could try two of these desks ($39/ea) with one lined up against the wall and the other jutting out:
and stack them to the desired height… it will double as book, DVD, CD, gadget storage as well and I think the steel on black on white (and maybe a blue like the picture…if u do blue) would look pretty cool… I’d do it if i had chosen those colors in my room… ive got green and khaki walls right now so I’m probably gonna be picking up a Galant series L desk myself…
(btw this is all from Ikea and there is one located in Long Island)
I went to IKEA before buying the stuff for my apartment…after 20 mins I wanted to kill myself, and my GF at the time was ready to kill everyone. Its just odd…too many people, too many things, and nothing we liked…lol.
That C thing you showed is kinda cool…i’m trying to see if I have a place for it.
[quote author=“dbs”]I know you’re an on-line kinda guy, but given your location I’d check out a few contemporary furniture stores and designer galleries.
Salespeople scare me. Computers don’t.
[quote author=“tifosiv122”]Simple, get a wall mounted TV stand…they can support over 30lbs.
You can buy one at Best Buy or Home Depot or order it online.
Great idea. It’s so… obvious now. :| I was also considering this desk , but it’s designed to fit in a corner.
[quote author=“OnMyWayUp”]Whats so insane? Everything sounds reasonable to me…
Using a 100W/channel 8.1 receiver and B&W speakers for a computer is certifiable.
Those C things are a bit foofy for me… My sister might get a kick out of them. Her initials are CC.

Erik
Im actually beginning to reconsider… I may try it out since i love stainless steel and black with white.
That is IF i EVER get my mom to go to Ikea
LOL yea Ikea is a madhouse… if you go you HAVE to go on a weekday Mon-Thur… i went to the San Diego one on a Sat…   took an hour to get through the store and we didn’t even stop to check anything out  (was down there already… didnt drive there just for Ikea )
I just realised that I’m willingly participating in (hell, I started) a conversation about IKEA. How long will it be before I am using liquid nitrogen on my lock so I can leave the gas on for the fridge compressor saying “I loved every stick of furniture in that place. That
was not just a bunch of stuff that got destroyed, that was ME!”

Yeah np…I thought it was obvious too
And yeah, that does need to be in a corner.
If you have the space and still like the Z line, you can put 2 of the straight desks together and have the 3 utility part on both sides…you decide which side the utility part goes on when you put it together…that would be hot.

It would, but space is at a definite premium.
OnMyWayUp: I am jack’s wasted life . (one of my all-time top 5 favorite movies)
I guess I know who’s replacing Brezhnev/Neo as my next avatar.
